Job description

Amentum is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Building Automation Systems (BAS) Engineer to support facility operations in the Washington, DC area. This role is responsible for the maintenance, optimization, and continuous improvement of the building automation systems that control and monitor mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC, lighting, energy management, and related infrastructure.

The BAS Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring system reliability, occupant comfort, operational efficiency, and compliance with Department of State (DOS) standards. This position also manages all BAS-related service contracts, repairs, and projects, ensuring proper oversight and timely execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize building automation systems (BAS) to ensure efficient control of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Oversee BAScontrolled HVAC, lighting, energy management, and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Manage and track all BAS service contracts, vendor work, upgrades, and repair projects.
  • Monitor system performance and implement adjustments to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Coordinate system upgrades, expansions, and enhancements in alignment with facility requirements and DOS guidelines.
  • Perform regular inspections, testing, calibration, and preventive maintenance of BAS components.
  • Analyze building data to identify inefficiencies and recommend corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with facility managers, mechanical engineers, and operations teams to support missioncritical building performance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of BAS architecture, equipment, configurations, and system changes.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols, industry standards, and applicable federal regulations.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree
  • Must be manufacturer-trained on the Building Automation System(s) installed.
  • Certifications such as CEM, CET, or manufacturerspecific BAS training.
  • Strong technical background in BAS, building systems, HVAC controls, or related engineering fields.
  • At least 10 years of experience working with major BAS platforms (e.g., Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, Trane, Schneider, etc.).
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and control system issues.
  • Familiarity with energy management principles, control theory, and system optimization.
  • Experience managing service contracts or coordinating vendorperformed work.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, control schematics, mechanical drawings, and system documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required TS/SCI clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting government, secure, or missioncritical facilities.
  • Background working in the Department of State (DOS) environments or similar federal agency settings.
  • Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, or other control communication protocols.

Compensation Details:

$250,000-$300,000
