Job description

General Purpose

Lead the operational risk and controls program for PacifiCorp's Energy Supply Management organization, partnering across trading, market operations, transmission, settlements, forecasting, and support functions to strengthen governance, improve business processes, and support participation in CAISO's Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM).

Responsibilities
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the ESM operational controls framework to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor operational risk across ESM activities.
  • Partner with ESM leadership, subject matter experts, process owners, and consultants to understand business processes, systems, and decision-making workflows, and collaboratively design practical solutions that strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and reduce operational risk.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives, working with Grid Operations, Transmission Services, Settlements, Metering, and other functions to identify control gaps, process inefficiencies, key-person dependencies, and operational vulnerabilities, implementing sustainable improvements and corrective actions that enhance organizational resilience.
  • Build trusted relationships across ESM and related organizations, facilitating constructive dialogue, shared ownership, and stakeholder engagement to successfully implement process and control enhancements in a complex operational environment.
  • Lead change management activities associated with process, technology, and control improvements, helping teams adopt and sustain new ways of working while balancing operational, regulatory, and business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain metrics, monitoring, and reporting to assess process performance, evaluate control effectiveness, identify emerging risks, and provide meaningful insight to ESM leadership and audit and governance functions.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management, Compliance, Finance, Internal Audit, Information Technology, and operational teams to support governance requirements, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Document and maintain ESM processes, controls, and procedures; support regulatory proceedings through testimony, filings, and subject matter expertise.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on operational risk, governance, and process effectiveness.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Operations Management, Business Management, Engineering, Business Finance or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience with process and operation control with a preference for utility and/or regulatory experience.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and presentation applications to gather, analyze, and model information.
  • Teamwork skills to negotiate with and influence peers and management on policy and strategic issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds. 
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly and independently learn complex concepts. and systems 
Preferences
  • Experience in a trading, transmission or market operations, or settlements role at an electric utility.
  • Experience with Power Costs, Inc. ("PCI") software and system implementations.
  • Experience with Endur energy trading and risk management software and system implementations.
  • Experience with MCG Energy Software ("MCG") interchange management software and system implementations.
  • Experience with OATI transmission management software.
  • Experience with YesEnergy SettleCore settlements software.
  • Experience with transforming manual processes through automation and creating automated alerts, monitoring, or dashboards for increased operational visibility.
