Required Skills

Job Description
The Senior Software Configuration/Release Engineer is responsible for designing, automating, and maintaining cloud configuration, release, and infrastructure management processes across GTA's AWS environments. This role ensures highly available, secure, compliant, and well-governed cloud platforms through effective automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), patch management, backup strategy, and certificate governance.
The engineer will work closely with DevOps, Security, and Infrastructure teams to support stable, reliable statewide services.
Responsibilities
Cloud Configuration & Infrastructure Automation
  • Develop, implement, and maintain configuration management processes, policies, and standards for AWS environments.
  • Build, deploy, and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform to automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of AWS resources (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM).
  • Manage and optimize multiple environments (Dev, Test, Stage, Prod) ensuring configuration consistency and security.

Release Engineering & AWS DevOps
  • Support automation pipelines using the AWS Code Suite: Code Commit, Code Build, CodeDeploy, and CodePipeline.
  • Work closely with DevOps teams to support release activities, deployments, rollbacks, configuration updates, and environment readiness.

Backup, Patching & Compliance
  • Design and maintain automated AWS backup solutions to ensure data integrity, resiliency, and compliance with state retention policies.
  • Implement automated patching workflows for cloud infrastructure to maintain required security and compliance posture.
  • Conduct periodic audits of environment configuration, patch levels, backup integrity, and certificate compliance; recommend and implement improvements.

Security & Certificate Management
  • Manage installation, renewal, rotation, and validation of SSL/TLS certificates across AWS services.
  • Ensure secure communication configurations and alignment with state and federal security requirements.

Documentation, Governance & Training
  • Maintain detailed, accurate documentation of configuration baselines, IaC standards, module usage, and environment changes.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on Terraform, AWS infrastructure best practices, backup strategies, patch automation, and certificate management.

    • Hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, ACM)
    • Experience with cloud backup solutions and automated patching
    • Expertise in SSL/TLS certificate management and security best practices

Preferred Qualifications
  • Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation within AWS/Terraform.
  • AWS Certification(s) and/or Terraform Certification.
  • Experience working with state or local government environments.
  • Experience with vendor oversight or management.
  • Experience with project management or Agile delivery tools.
  • Experience with organizational change management (OCM).
