Primary Responsibilitie
As an employee-owner in this Senior Rail Bridge Engineer role, we'll count on you to:
  • Serve as Discipline or Task Lead for railroad bridge/structural engineering/design projects, and other offices to support the Freight Rail Market Sector and other market sectors as needed.
  • Support Project Managers by leading or participating in marketing and contracting activities.
  • Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost estimating activities.
  • Perform railroad bridge/structural engineering/design planning, analysis, and design aspects of rail and rail-related transportation projects.
  • Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects.
  • Support Project Managers by leading, or participating in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections as needed.
  • Attend industry events and represent HDR as needed.
  • Mentor younger staff and support technical development.
  • Supervise junior staff performance of engineering tasks.
  • Work across industries with rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry clients.
  • Provide leadership across technical disciplines.

Preferred Qualification
  • Experience working with AREMA's Manual for Railway Engineering and/or other railroad design guidelines, specifications, and criteria.
  • Proficiency in railroad structural analysis programs, bridge design software, load rating and bridge rehabilitation.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, strong communication skills, and ability to work in a team environment with various teams.
  • Desire to mentor younger staff and grow in skill set related to the railroad industry.
  • Master of Science in Structural Engineering.
  • S.E. license.
  • Project Management experience managing projects for rail, industrial or transit clients.
  • Demonstrated client development or client management experience.
  • Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.
  • Experience in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public is desirable.
  • Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LARSA, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, spColumn, and/or LUSAS.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years bridge design experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Proven hands-on experience in all aspects of bridge design projects
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam Revu and engineering software packages such as: LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, AASHTOWare BrR, midas Civil, MDX, SAP2000, CSiBridge, RM Bridge, spColumn, STLBridgeLRFD, or STLBridge.
  • Knowledge of ADINA, LUSAS, Bentley OpenBridge Designer and OpenBridge Modeler and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil3d.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, AutoCAD, MathCAD, LARSA, Prestress Concrete Design
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams
  • Project management skills desirable
  • Strong communication skills and willing to work in a team environment
  • Must be comfortable being viewed as a technical expert in engineering analysis and design and have proven background of technical leadership on these types of projects
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
