The Opportunity

As Ulteig's National Bridge Design Leader, you will help shape the future of a rapidly growing Bridge & Structures practice. This role combines technical leadership, client development, and practice building, offering the opportunity to influence major bridge programs while expanding Ulteig's presence across the Upper Midwest, Mountain West, Texas, and beyond.

You will work with DOT, Tribal, municipal, and transportation clients to pursue, win, and deliver complex bridge projects while helping define the technical direction of a nationally expanding practice. We are seeking a respected bridge leader who is energized by winning and delivering complex bridge work, mentoring the next generation of engineers, strengthening client relationships, and helping build a nationally recognized bridge practice.

Supported by an established employee-owned organization, you'll have the opportunity to influence technical strategy, shape engineering standards, expand market presence, and help define the next chapter of Ulteig's Bridge & Structures practice while leaving a lasting impact on both projects and people.

Success in this role requires both technical credibility and a passion for business development. The ideal candidate enjoys building trusted client relationships, identifying opportunities, leading pursuits, and helping grow a bridge practice while remaining engaged in complex technical delivery.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership and Delivery Excellence

  • Lead complex bridge engineering efforts from concept through completion, ensuring high technical quality and sound engineering judgment.
  • Solve advanced structural challenges involving steel and concrete systems, curved girders, seismic and ice loading, and other specialized conditions.
  • Conduct independent technical reviews, including oversight of thirdparty designs, to ensure accuracy, safety, constructability, and compliance.
  • Promote strong engineering practices and continuous improvement in design methods, tools, quality management, and technical standards across the Bridge & Structures practice.
  • Anticipate emerging technical and market trends and help guide investments in capabilities, tools, and services that strengthen Ulteig's long-term success.

Project Management and Execution

  • Serve as a project manager or technical lead on bridge and structural projects for state DOTs, counties, municipalities, and tribal entities.
  • Develop and manage scopes, budgets, and schedules with disciplined execution and clear communication.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies to support predictable, highquality delivery.

Client Engagement and Market Development

  • Build and strengthen relationships with key clients, including state and local agencies, tribal nations, and industry partners.
  • Serve as a technical win leader on strategic pursuits by shaping win themes and project approach, contributing to proposals with Market and Sales teams, and representing design strategy in select interviews to strengthen Ulteig's presence in priority geographies.
  • Represent Ulteig with professionalism, technical credibility, and a strong commitment to client success.

Team Leadership and Mentorship

  • Actively develop the technical bench by coaching engineers on judgment, constructability, and client-facing technical communication.
  • Contribute to the longterm development of the Bridge and Structures team through knowledge sharing, training support, and active participation in team culture.
  • Model Ulteig's values and help foster a highperforming, supportive team culture.
  • Foster an inclusive team environment where diverse perspectives are valued, and team members feel a sense of belonging.
