Job description

We are currently looking for a permanent full-time Agricultural Research Seed Production Manager to join the KWS Seeds LLC team located at our Ogden, Utah research station. The Agricultural Research Seed Production Manager will manage multiple proprietary research plots for growing research seed. This role will involve contracting sites and managing them throughout the growing season. This position will also maintain research equipment, collect and report detailed data and collaborate with other research stations. The ultimate goal is to successfully develop products and support commercialization of seed. Essential Job Functions:
  • Manage the planning, planting and harvesting of proprietary seed production in assigned region.
  • Manage and organize contract cooperators and other necessary parties involved in conducting seed production.
  • Document accurate and detailed notes of agricultural practices.
  • Provide training, manage performance of and supervise employees, including contract labor, to ensure tasks are completed correctly.
  • Closely interact and communicate with counterparts at other research stations in order to implement innovations and new techniques.
  • Provide input regarding budgets for capital projects, and manage projects as needed.
  • Provide input on planning of general farm and station activities in relation to cropping systems and pest control.
  • Provide and create detailed data reports on a regular basis to breeding and station groups.
  • Operate and assist with repair and maintenance of all farm and research equipment, buildings and grounds.
  • Perform seed activities including but not limited to planting, assembling structures, maintaining plots, pollinating, selfing, rogueing and data collection, harvesting, processing.
  • Provide assistance in field activities such as planting, thinning, weeding, irrigation, notes and data recording.
  • Perform general maintenance and cleaning or sanitation tasks.
  • Ensure Company handbook, Rules Guidelines and Procedures and safety policies are followed and personal protective equipment is used correctly.
  • Travel and/or drive on behalf of the business.
  • Meet attendance requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in agronomy, agriculture, biology or related field, or 4 years related knowledge and extensive experience
  • Knowledge and experience with field equipment and farm machinery.
  • Demonstrated strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to travel approximately 25% to local, regional and international locations.
  • Ability to work variable hours including occasional weekends as required by the business.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to obtain CDL.
  • Must have or be able to obtain Pesticide Applicator License.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in seed and crop production.
  • Strong mechanical and welding skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team with flexibility.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and communication skills with consistent attention to detail.
