Job Summary
As a Quality Assurance Engineer at BPMI, you will perform quality engineering functions and make engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks. Cognizant areas may include planning, analyzing, documenting, and inspection of nuclear, mechanical, structural, or electrical components, systems, equipment, and facilities. Work may include chemical or materials evaluations, design reviews, operations support, engineering methods and software development, and analysis/auditing of vendor's procedures and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance.
This position requires knowledge and application of engineering techniques, principles and practices employed in the area of assignment. Individual is responsible to maintain the technical excellence of the Company within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
Essential Duties:
  • Analyze the quality programs, systems, and procedures of suppliers to assess their capability to manufacture quality components.
  • Conduct audits of manufacturing, testing, and inspection processes at suppliers' facilities to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  • Review contracts to ensure proper application of requirements.
  • Review supplier drawings and procedures for compliance with contract requirements.
  • Conduct in-process surveillance of manufacturing processes at suppliers' facilities to ensure contract and procedural compliance.
  • Re-Inspect components after acceptance by suppliers.
  • Support resolution of technical and quality issues at the supplier.
  • Interface with various internal and external stakeholders to support planning and execution of supplier oversight.
  • Delegated engineering responsibility for all aspects of assigned tasks with guidance on non-routine tasks and occasional guidance on routine tasks. Resolve issues in area of cognizance.
  • Communicate status of supplier health on a periodic basis to immediate management.
  • Understand and implement the Company engineering policies and procedures in area of cognizance.
  • Domestic travel (20-25%) to key Program and supplier sites including shipyard collaboration partners. Infrequent international travel may be required in support of trilateral partnerships.

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.
  • Ten (10) or more years of completed education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years of experience requirements.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for newer college graduates.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in supplier quality assurance.
  • Previous experience with the manufacturing of electrical and electronic components and assemblies.
