Summary:Production Operators may be responsible for performing one or all the essential functions in the pillow and/or mattress assembly process in a given day to accommodate operational needs. Employees may be required to be cross trained in any number of the functions below. All functions require that the employee maintains an up-to-date knowledge of all current products and materials.
Essential Functions (includes but not limited to):
  • Beater/Bagger - Smooths out the fill within the pillows. Requires constant standing. Inserts a half core and zips pillow closed. Ensures quality standard before packaging pillow into a bag or box.
  • Retail Box Maker - Cleans and erects retail cartons for the finished goods. This position requires constant standing while keeping up with the production line by always keeping the conveyor full of empty, erected retail cartons.
  • Retail Box Closer - Closes retail cartons on a conveyor and packs products into master cartons.
  • Master Carton Maker/Stacker - This position must verify the shipping labels with the work order before labeling master cartons. Once master cartons are labeled, they will be erected and taped on the bottom side of the carton. Once a master carton is filled, the carton will be taped shut, stacked, and then moved into a separate location by using a hand truck. This position requires constant bending and lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Pillow Line Prep - This area is normally staffed with a minimum of three people. VZB bags must be "cleaned" by taking tissue paper out from in between the bags. Paper inserts are inserted into bags based on the work order and part number of the inserts. Pillow shells are also "cleaned" and stamped with a work order number. This position requires you to be on your feet throughout most of the shift.
  • Sewer - Utilizes a single needle industrial machine to stitch closed pillows, ensuring they are meeting speed, accuracy, and quality requirements.
  • Machine Operator - Safely operates pillow and/or mattress machines and is responsible for basic daily preventative maintenance of assigned machines.
  • Mattress Assembler - Orients foam, joins foam components with adhesive glue, apply FR socks and sew shut, apply mattress cover, feed finished mattress in to mattress compress/roll machine, remove rolled mattress, box and palletize finished product.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • HS Diploma or GED
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and have IDs needed to verify.
  • Must be willing to work mandatory overtime when needed.
  • Must be willing and able to submit to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Must be able to pass all safety training tests.

Education/Experience/License Requirements:
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in operations within a factory environment is preferred.
  • Experience operating a forklift or pallet jack is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of experience operating an industrial sewing machine is preferred.
  • Strong familiarity with sourcing foam, fibers, threads, and boxes is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards and processes is required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Sensory Requirements: Ability to utilize senses such as touch, hearing, and vision. If required to wear prescription lenses while operating a vehicle, you must also use while operating factory machinery. Keen hearing necessary to hear surroundings while operating machinery.
Language Skills: English proficiency required (reading, writing, speaking, comprehension). Knowledge of an additional language(s) is a plus!
Mathematical Skills: Basic arithmetic and algebra
Reasoning Ability: Sound judgment, adherence to safety procedures, ability to follow directions, ability to follow chain of command, understanding of when to involve others in decision making.
Work Environment: Factory setting, large open area, exposure to heavy machinery and motorized vehicles, exposed to extreme temperatures, loud and fast paced environment, and occasional stressful situations.
