Job Summary:

The Applications Engineer, Telecom Shelter Systems  is responsible for translating customer engineering requirements into accurate, manufacturable configurations and bills of material for telecom shelter, hut, central office, and related power infrastructure projects. This role primarily owns BOM development, configuration control, and engineering change management, while also supporting customer technical discussions and manufacturing readiness.

The ideal candidate combines strong BOM and ECO discipline with the ability to interpret customer drawings, validate manufacturability, and communicate clearly with both customers and internal teams. This role works cross-functionally with customers, program delivery, sourcing, and manufacturing to ensure that released configurations are accurate, current, and buildable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

BOM Ownership & Detailed Engineering (~50%)

  • Own the full BOM lifecycle for telecom shelter and related infrastructure configurations, from initial development through release and revision
  • Translate customer engineering packages, including drawings, single-line diagrams, specifications, and configuration documents, into detailed engineering BOMs
  • Select and validate component-level part numbers for items such as power cables, compression lugs, fiber patch cords, rack hardware, and mechanical fittings
  • Maintain BOM accuracy across all active configurations and ensure all approved changes are reflected in the master BOM
  • Manage engineering change orders and configuration updates in applicable ERP/MRP systems
  • Ensure manufacturing, sourcing, and internal stakeholders are always working from current released BOMs and documentation
  • Support standardization of BOM structure, documentation practices, and change control processes

Solutions Engineering / Customer-Facing (~30%)

  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers related to configuration requirements, BOM validation, and engineering clarifications
  • Review and interpret customer-provided engineering packages to confirm completeness, manufacturability, and alignment with internal build standards
  • Participate in design reviews and configuration discussions with customer engineering teams
  • Manage configuration change requests throughout the project lifecycle, evaluate technical impact, and communicate disposition to both customer and internal stakeholders
  • Identify and document technical risks associated with design decisions, substitutions, and configuration changes, and provide recommendations to protect quality and schedule

Manufacturing Process Development & Improvement (~20%)

  • Validate BOM and documentation readiness with Operations prior to build release
  • Partner with Manufacturing and Assembly teams to support work instructions, engineering documentation, quality documentation, and standard build packages for electromechanical assemblies
  • Evaluate configurations from a factory assembly perspective to improve build readiness and consistency
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing assembly labor, improving first-pass quality, reducing waste, and increasing repeatability
  • Help identify process, workflow, and system improvements that improve speed, accuracy, and business outcomes

Managerial Responsibility

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Travel/Shift Requirements

  • This position may require up to 25% travel for customer site visits, design reviews, and shelter configuration validation.

Physical Demands

  • This position is primarily performed in an office and manufacturing floor environment. No hands-on assembly is required. Occasional walking of the production floor for design review and process observation may be required.

Skills and Abilities Required

Must-Have Skills

  • Strong BOM ownership experience, including creation, maintenance, revision control, and ECO/change management
  • Ability to read and extract component-level detail from schematics, single-line diagrams, assembly drawings, and customer specifications
  • Ability to translate customer engineering intent into manufacturable BOMs and configuration documentation
  • Strong technical communication skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, engineering teams, operations, and sourcing
  • Good judgment in identifying manufacturability concerns, documentation gaps, and technical risk
  • Experience working in ERP/MRP systems used for BOM and change control

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with telecom shelter, hut, central office, or data center power infrastructure configurations
  • Working knowledge of DC power distribution, grounding/bonding, battery plant, fuse panels, BDCBB, cable management, ATS, generator integration, and HVAC in shelter environments
  • Knowledge of applicable standards such as NEBS, ANSI/TIA grounding, and NEC

  • Experience managing BOMs and engineering changes in a manufacturing, telecom infrastructure, power systems, cable assembly, or related technical environment
  • Experience in a customer-facing technical, applications engineering, configuration engineering, or similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to support design review and configuration change management

Preferred
