Description
The Boiler Service Technician is responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial boilers, burners, and associated systems. This role demands both technical expertise and a strong commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
โ€ข Troubleshoot and service light commercial to large industrial watertube and firetube boilers.
โ€ข Perform combustion setup, analysis, and adjustments on burners ranging from 0.5 to 30 million BTU/HR.
โ€ข Diagnose and repair industrial burners and combustion systems.
โ€ข Conduct internal and external inspections of boilers and associated control systems.
โ€ข Replace and repair gaskets, valves, and various boiler components.
โ€ข Evaluate steam and hydronic systems to identify issues and propose solutions.
โ€ข Work with boiler support equipment including deaerators, feedwater systems, economizers, and blowdown systems.
โ€ข Install, troubleshoot, and calibrate instrumentation such as thermocouples, loop controllers, transmitters, and other process controls.
โ€ข Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
โ€ข Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
โ€ข Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
Requirements
โ€ข At least 3 years' experience servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing commercial and industrial boilers, burners, and associated systems.
โ€ข A valid driver's license is required with a clean record. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require travel.
โ€ข Must pass pre-employment background and an initial and subsequent random drug screening tests.
โ€ข Self-motivated individual who works independently, as well as in a team atmosphere.
โ€ข Good customer service skills are mandatory.
โ€ข Present a positive professional image with customers.
โ€ข Must be able to operate independently and communicate efficiently and effectively with both customers and management.
โ€ข Detail-oriented in completing work orders, all required forms, summaries, and checklists.
โ€ข Must have strong language skills as well as industry specific vocabulary.
โ€ข Basic mathematics, algebra, and formula knowledge are required.
โ€ข Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Foundational Understanding:
โ€ข Technician understands basic operation of steam boilers and burners (firetube and watertube types).
โ€ข Technician understands key boiler safety components and their functions (low water cut-off, pressure relief, etc.).
โ€ข Technician understands common types of burners and their basic parts.
โ€ข Technician understands the fundamentals of combustion (fuel, air, heat, and proper ignition sequence).
โ€ข Technician understands basic electrical safety and how to identify/control power sources.
โ€ข Technician understands how to properly perform startup/shutdown procedures per manufacturer guidelines.
Physical Requirements:
โ€ข Must be able to bend, kneel, squat, stand, and climb frequently.
โ€ข Capable of lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
โ€ข Able to push/pull heavy equipment and maneuver tubing and materials.
โ€ข Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated areas.
โ€ข Working with hot steam, liquids, tight spaces, and other conditions depending on customer site(s).
โ€ข Must pass a physical (fit test), hearing and eye exam.
Education Requirements:
โ€ข Completed High School Diploma or equivalent.
โ€ข Two years of technical school, community college or trade school.
โ€ข Computer knowledge a plus.

$30 - $45/hour depending upon experience
