POSITION SUMMARY:


  • Creates the engineering and planning package for manufactured parts

  • Writes detailed instructions for every step of the manufacturing process

  • Generates detailed inspection plans for all mfg. steps including CNC machining

  • Generates cost estimations for repeat work by analyzing previous results

  • Generates cost estimations for new work by estimating CNC machining cycles

  • Reviews blueprints, specifications, and customer purchase orders to ensure compliance

  • Implements lean manufacturing concepts and single piece flow into mfg. methods

  • Drives continuous improvement with process improvement projects

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Releases new and repeat manufacturing plans to the floor for production.

Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards.

Analyzes and plans setup times, cycle times and tooling requirements for maximum efficiency.

Generates manufacturing sketches using Catia or Solidworks for rough machining, manufacturing clarity, masking instructions, etc.

Confers with machine shop staff concerning part design and tooling required to ensure efficient production methods.

Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and plan for purchase of services, materials, or parts using the computer to specify in detail the purchasing requirements. Writes purchase instructions according to specifications and quality standards.

Estimates production times, outside processing requirements and relates costs to provide information for management decisions.

Confers with management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate optimum production processes.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Superior Thread Rolling is seeking a candidate with CNC experience who can apply that knowledge to create routers and inspection plans that team members can follow to produce high-quality aerospace parts in a cost-effective manner. Manufacturing Engineering in Aerospace balances AS9100 and customer compliance quality requirements with business priorities for efficiency, cost control, and profitability, all while maintaining on-time delivery to all customers.

This position requires considerable independent judgment and initiative.

A college degree is not required to qualify for this position.



  • Minimum 3 years combined CNC machining experience or planning experience in an Aerospace machine shop required

  • Blueprint reading skills and understanding of GD&T required

  • Knowledge of common inspection methods and tools required

  • Familiarity with common methods for CNC programming, fixtures, and order of operations is required

  • CAD experience in Catia or Solidworks required

  • Touch typing ability and proficiency with basic Office tools like Excel and Word required

  • Experience with an MRP system desired

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, cellular concepts, and theory of constraints desired

  • Experience with grinding, thread rolling, fasteners, and mechanical testing desired

  • Experience with outside processes such as heat treating, plating, and coatings desired

  • A degree in Manufacturing Engineering, or another related major with an emphasis in manufacturing, is desired
