Job description

Description The Master Firefighter is a senior-level operational position within the Fire Department that serves as the bridge between the role of Senior Firefighter (Engineer) and Lieutenant. This position combines advanced firefighting, rescue, and EMS responsibilities with mentorship, training, and leadership support duties. Master Firefighters provide a high level of technical expertise, serve as role models within the company, and assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Lieutenant.

Examples of Duties Responds to fire, rescue, EMS, hazardous materials, and other emergency incidents as part of an assigned company. Performs advanced firefighting operations, including fire suppression, search and rescue, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots fire apparatus, pumps, and specialized equipment.

Serves as lead firefighter on scene when directed, providing tactical direction and ensuring safe, effective operations. Assists the Lieutenant with daily company operations, including personnel accountability, station duties, and readiness. Provides mentorship, training, and evaluation support for probationary firefighters and less experienced personnel.

Monitors safety conditions on the fireground and communicates concerns to command staff. Ensures compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and operational guidelines. Participates in community risk reduction, fire prevention, and public education programs.

Assumes acting Lieutenant responsibilities as assigned, including initial incident command, company leadership, and administrative duties. Typical Qualifications Completion of Senior Firefighter/Engineer rank with satisfactory performance. Minimum of 4 years of fire service experience (typically 5-7).

Minimo de 4 anos de experiencia en el servicio de bomberos (normalmente entre 5 y 7 anos). Certificacion como Bombero II (segun normas estatales o nacionales). Certificacion vigente como Tecnico en Emergencias Medicas (EMT) como minimo; se prefiere certificacion como Paramedico.

Licencia de conducir valida con las autorizaciones correspondientes para la operacion de vehiculos de emergencia. Haber completado los programas internos requeridos de promocion y desarrollo de liderazgo. Condiciones de Trabajo El trabajo se realiza tanto en entornos de emergencia como en situaciones no emergentes.

Exposicion a temperaturas extremas, materiales peligrosos, humo y condiciones de alto estres. Puede requerirse trabajar turnos de 24 horas, fines de semana y dias festivos. Las exigencias fisicas incluyen levantar cargas pesadas, escalar, arrastrarse y operar en condiciones peligrosas.
