Position Overview:
As part of the talented Brunswick Boat Group Technology Center team, the senior structural engineer position is responsible for leading the composite and structural system designs for the Brunswick Boat Group Technical Center (BBGTC) and will play a key role in new product development of Boston Whaler, Sea Ray, and Navan product lines. A successful candidate for this position will be familiar with both analytical and experimental methods for design and validation of composites, metallic structures, fastenings, and mechanisms.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead structural analysis and design activities using FEA and other CAE tools across boat structures, including composites, metallic structures, and fastenings
  • Develop robust structural solutions that optimize material usage to achieve weight, cost, and performance targets
  • Design and evaluate composite laminate schedules for structural members and molded components using open- and closed molding processes
  • Ensure all designs are fully validated through appropriate analysis, testing, and correlation methods
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including design, manufacturing, testing, suppliers, and program management
  • Mentor and coach engineering team members in areas of structural analysis, composites, and best practices
  • Ensure compliance with applicable NMMA, ABYC, ISO, and other domestic and international regulatory requirements
  • Review, generate, and approve engineering change notices (ECNs) as required
  • Apply Voice of the Customer and systems engineering inputs to design solutions
  • Author and review technical reports, analyses, and design documentation
  • Stay current with emerging design, analysis, and experimental methodologies through research and internal collaboration
  • Support prototype builds, testing activities, and occasional on site evaluations
  • Occasional travel required (approximately 5%)

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related discipline
  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Consideration will be given for candidates with significant work experience in lieu of education requirements
Experience and Skills
Required
  • Extensive experience in structural analysis and design, particularly with composite and metallic structures
  • Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis tools (Altair HyperMesh preferred or equivalent)
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production constraints
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and provide technical direction within cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred
  • Marine industry experience and knowledge of boat construction methods
  • Experience with fiberglass composite manufacturing processes including infusion and RTM
  • Familiarity with Siemens NX, SolidWorks, and/or Creo (Pro/E)
  • Experience with data acquisition and test systems (e.g., Simcenter Testlab, Dewesoft, Somat eDAQ)
  • Knowledge of NMMA, ABYC, and ISO standards
  • Prior mentoring or technical leadership experience
  • Design for Six Sigma certification or experience
  • Boating experience and passion for the marine industry

Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
The hiring range for this position is $84,500 - $123,900. The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate's qualifications and the business context.
In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
