Job description

Join Orange EV, a fast-growing manufacturer of electric vehicles that are better for the earth, people and the bottom line. Make a difference for the world as part of a company leading the electric vehicle revolution.

Position Summary

As an Electric Vehicle Service Technical Trainer on the Service Support Team, you will play a critical role in empowering EV service technicians with the knowledge and hands-on skills they need to confidently service our zero-emission Class 8 trucks โ€” better for the earth, better for people, and better for our customers' bottom line.

You will design, deliver, and continuously improve training programs covering everything from foundational electrical theory to advanced EV diagnostics. Most training sessions are held at Orange EV headquarters, with up to 20% travel required for field and partner engagements.

Position Responsibilities

Curriculum Development

  • Design and maintain structured training modules covering basic electrical theory through complex EV mechanical and electrical systems, including high-voltage safety protocols.
  • Develop and deliver in-person lab sessions, classroom instruction, and technical demonstrations.
  • Build and maintain remote/online training courses to support distributed team accessibility and scalability.
  • Collaborate with Service Support and Engineering Teams to ensure all materials reflect the latest product updates and field learnings.
  • Partner with third-party organizations and OEM partners to develop specialized training content.

Assessment & Records

  • Design competency assessments and practical evaluations to verify technician readiness prior to field deployment.
  • Track and maintain detailed records of student progress, course completions, and certification status.

Technician Development

  • Lead onboarding training for new service technicians, setting clear competency benchmarks.
  • Support ongoing skills development for both entry-level apprentices and experienced mechanics transitioning to EV platforms.
  • Champion a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the service organization.

Position Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience with vehicle electrical systems, electronics, or a related technical field (significant training experience may be considered in lieu of some technical experience).
  • Experience with automotive, Class 8 truck, or heavy-duty industrial diagnostics.
  • Demonstrated experience as a trainer or technical instructor, with the ability to break down complex concepts for diverse audiences โ€” from entry-level apprentices to veteran mechanics.
  • Deep understanding of electrical theory, diagnostics, and systems troubleshooting, including CAN bus, BMS, and high-voltage EV systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and learner groups simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills โ€” comfortable engaging audiences ranging from new hires to senior technical staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3โ€“5+ years of hands-on experience as a master technician or EV specialist at a dealership, OEM, or authorized repair center.
  • High-voltage safety certification (e.g., NFPA 70E or OEM-specific HV credentials).
  • ASE L3 (Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicle) or equivalent manufacturer-specific credentials.
  • Deep understanding of lithium-ion battery chemistry, cell structures, thermal management systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), CAN bus, and high-voltage EV architectures.
  • Familiarity with instructional design methodologies (ADDIE, SAM, or equivalent).
