Job description

Growing steel fabrication and erection company, Alpha Iron, is looking for a highly motivated Estimator. Our ideal candidate will be organized, energetic and responsible for developing cost estimates on simple to complex projects. Duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Review RFI Bid documents, design drawings and understand scope of work to bid in the Steel Industry.
  • Create take-off list of fabrication and erection drawings.
  • Input take-offs into computer spreadsheets.
  • Obtain bids from vendors and/or subcontractors.
  • Obtain current pricing for materials.
  • Deliver itemized bid proposals with accurate price and schedule.
  • Accountability for estimating and accurate completion of bids.
  • Research competitor's pricing.
  • At award, work with Project Management and Production Manager to set up budget and transfer knowledge for maximum gains.
  • Have bids ready to review 24 hrs. prior to bid date / time.
  • Keep bid log current and contact repeat customers monthly.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Must have good customer service skills as well as written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work load.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the Steel Fabrication and/or Erection Industry.
  • Prior experience with Tekla, or equivalent estimating software (is a plus).
  • Computer skills: Excel; Word; Outlook, Tekla or equivalent modeling software knowledge is a plus; Blue Beam/PDF.
  • High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required; Bachelor's in relevant field Preferred.
