BLUE STAKES SPECIALIST

*Job openings are posted for a minimum of three calendar days. The review and selection process may begin as early as the fourth day after posting. This opening may be removed from posting boards and filled at any time after the minimum posting period has ended.

SALARY: $50,279.44 - $77,010.29 Annually $24.17 - $37.02 hourly (salary will normally begin at the first step of the range, dependent upon education and experience) GRADE: 10

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Riverton City is seeking a full-time Blue Stakes Specialist in the Public Works Department. Under the direction of the City Electrician, this position is responsible for blue staking, street sign maintenance and installation, and streetlight maintenance and installation.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

(These examples are not all-inclusive)

  • Determine the location of various utility services using locating equipment and mark accordingly
  • Read maps and drawings
  • Assist the City Electrician as needed
  • Install and repair street signs
  • Work closely with the GIS team to update maps
  • Use current software to document work
  • Assist with seasonal snow removal
  • Participate in on-call rotations, responding to after-hours calls
  • Install all permanent curb and gutter utility markers
  • Stay current with all Federal, State, and local rules and regulations regarding marking utilities
  • Any other responsibilities that would be required to maintain effective operations of the department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 2+ years' experience in operating light to heavy equipment is required
  • 2+ years' experience in general construction work required; preference will be given for experience working for state, local, or city government
  • Must possess a valid Utah Commercial Driver License class A or obtain it within 6 months of hire.
  • Must have a good driving record
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays when needed
  • Must be able to perform physical demands as listed on the job description to perform the essential functions of the job successfully
  • Must be highly self-motivated and customer-centric

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Must learn blue staking devices and utility locating equipment within 3 months of hire
  • Required to learn current software within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in difficult situations
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Ability to prioritize work based on department and production objectives
  • Ability to manage projects simultaneously
  • Positive attitude and ability to work with a variety of different people at various levels
  • Good skills in Word, Excel, Office, and Outlook required
  • Good oral and written communication skills required
  • Must have good customer orientation, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
  • Required to have strong team interaction skills and interpersonal skills
  • Required to have strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees
  • Must be able to operate all equipment required for this position
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screen, a background check, a Utah driving record, a Human Performance Evaluation, be able to lift up to 50 lbs., and provide employment verification with Form I-9. This position has a six-month probation period.
