Bloom Books is revolutionizing romance publishing-and we're looking for an Editor to help us take our authors and their stories to the next level.

If you are a passionate, hands-on editor with deep experience in shaping commercially successful fiction-and you love romance (including the spicy kind!)-this is an incredible opportunity to work closely with bestselling and breakout authors to craft books that readers can't put down.
The Editor, Bloom Books and Bloom YA will acquire, edit, and manage both adult fiction and young adult authors. Bloom Books has experienced mind-blowing growth in the last two years with our adult fiction and we are excited to both continue to expand our adult fiction list AND expand more heavily into YA. This role is a great fit for you if you are a fan of romance (and spice!), have a commercial and business-minded approach to building a list, are flexible in both learning processes and knowing how and when to work outside of them, and truly believe in the power of books to change lives! We are bold. We are Bloom.
This is an exempt salaried position at $55,000 - $70,000/year. This range is based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, location, training, and education. This process ensures a fair and competitive salary that aligns with both the company and the candidate's qualifications.
The location for this position can be hybrid or remote in New York or Naperville, Illinois or remote based in any of the following states: Arizona, Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin. This role includes some travel, including occasional meetings at the home office in Naperville, IL.
What You'll Do:
  • With the Editorial Director, responsible for long-range planning and list management of Bloom Books and Bloom YA
  • Identify and solicit manuscripts for publication in desired areas
  • Analyze marketplace needs and competition and establish project list and schedule for each season
  • Present potential titles at acquisitions meetings, propose new titles, recruit authors, screen author proposals, conduct contract negotiations with authors and agents
  • Position new product in the marketplace with respect to content, category, title, subtitle, physical packaging, design packaging, marketing copy, etc.
  • Develop manuscripts for content, structure, and positioning
  • Work closely with publicity, marketing, and sales division on matters relating to sales and opportunities
  • Develop strategic alliances and create new initiatives for product acquisition, marketing initiatives and sales opportunities

What You Bring:
  • Have 5+ years of publishing experience
  • Be a self-starter. Exhibiting initiative, leadership, and a strong desire to grow in book and product development.
  • Play well with others. Seriously, we're a hard-working team who also happen to be pretty nice.
  • Juggle and coordinate. We want a clear communicator who is detail-oriented, organized and can keep short- and long-term projects on schedules while following through on deadlines.
  • Love books. This is a must.
  • Be flexible. The way we work on the Bloom team is different from traditional publishing and we treat each author with a highly customized approach.
