A typical day for a Blood Bank Technologist may include:

  • Follow established laboratory safety protocols, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements, including CLIA, CAP, and other applicable standards.
  • Utilize the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to accurately enter, review, verify, and report patient test results.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of testing, instrument maintenance, quality control activities, and corrective actions.
  • Communicate critical values and significant laboratory findings promptly to physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assist with troubleshooting technical issues and report equipment malfunctions to the supervisor while initiating service requests as appropriate.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables to support uninterrupted laboratory operations.
  • Review patient and specimen information to ensure proper identification and testing requirements are met.
  • Apply scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and professional judgment to evaluate test results and recognize abnormal or unexpected findings.
  • Collaborate with pathologists, laboratory leadership, and multidisciplinary care teams to support timely and accurate patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, process improvement initiatives, and continuing education to support high-quality laboratory services.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment while supporting exceptional patient care through accurate and timely diagnostic testing.

  • 1 year experience working in a hospital setting laboratory preferred
  • ASCP Certification
  • Schedule: M-F 2p - 10p and one weekend a month
