Field Service Technician

Location: Plymouth, MN

Compensation: up to $30/hour

Start Date: ASAP

About us

Scientific Safety Alliance, or SSA, exists to Accelerate Science. Delightfully. SSA is growing at an exceptional rate and is rapidly rising Inc Magazines 2024 and 2025 list of fastest growing privately held companies. How fast? In a little over 3 years, we have acquired 21 companies and our growth is only accelerating.

What makes SSA special? SSA is a 100% founder and employee-owned company. Every team member has a stake in the outcome, and everyone's performance directly impacts the value of their ownership. We have grown from a handful of regional teams into one of the fastest-growing companies in the United States through a network of specialized local service companies. We serve the life sciences world, including pharmaceutical, biotech, hospital, and research facilities that rely on us to keep their controlled environments compliant and ready for discovery. Our mission is simple: remove the friction so our customers can focus on innovation.

CSI Testing has been the leading controlled environment testing and certification provider in the Upper Midwest for over 45 years. Our job is to certify spaces in which pharmaceuticals and medical devices are developed to meet regulatory safety standards. We are proud advocates of scientific innovation and patient safety through our work. CSI Testing joined the Scientific Safety Alliance (SSA) family of companies in 2023, a milestone event that brings a wealth of opportunities for growth and improvement, including better pay, bonus opportunities, and partial ownership of SSA for its employees.

The Opportunity: Field Service Technician - Controlled Environments

As a Field Service Technician, you'll enter one of the most comprehensive technical development programs in the industry. Over your first 6-18 months, you'll receive rigorous hands-on training in controlled environments, cleanroom performance testing, airflow dynamics, HEPA filtration, biosafety cabinetry, and industry regulations. After successfully completing year one, technicians are sponsored to earn NSF accreditation-nationally recognized validation of your expertise and technical competency.

This role offers unmatched exposure across the biotech, med-tech, pharmaceutical, and healthcare sectors. You'll perform certification, performance testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical controlled-environment equipment directly at customer facilities-often partnering with several organizations in a single day. No two days, sites, or technical challenges are alike.

Most importantly, technicians serve as the face of SSA. You'll build trusted relationships with scientists, laboratory leaders, and facility teams, ensuring safety, compliance, uptime, and an exceptional customer experience. For individuals who take pride in precision, problem-solving, autonomy, and professionalism, this career offers continuous learning, growing responsibility, and a clear path to leadership within a rapidly expanding, employee-owned company.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Ensure scientists, healthcare providers, and patients remain safe by performing accurate certification, performance testing, and validation of controlled environments.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment issues to minimize downtime and keep customer operations running smoothly.
  • Deliver confident, high-quality service that reinforces SSA's reputation as the most trusted controlled-environment partner in biotech, med-tech, and healthcare.
  • Build strong relationships with customers through clear communication, professionalism, timeliness, and ownership of results.
  • Maintain impeccable documentation, reports, and compliance records that meet regulatory, accreditation, and customer standards.
  • Identify potential risks, equipment failures, or environmental concerns and proactively recommend corrective or preventive actions.
  • Represent SSA's values: autonomy, urgency, openness, integrity, and embracing change-during every customer interaction.
  • Continuously expand technical knowledge, complete structured training milestones, and progress toward NSF accreditation.
  • Support teammates by sharing insights, best practices, and field learnings that strengthen performance across the organization.
  • Protect company assets, tools, vehicles, and equipment while following strict safety, quality, and calibration standards.
  • Contribute to operational efficiency by suggesting process improvements, workflow enhancements, and customer experience upgrades.
  • Act as a trusted advisor by educating customers on proper equipment use, maintenance schedules, regulatory expectations, and lifecycle planning.

Deliverables & Outcomes

  • Successfully complete SSA technical training milestones and demonstrate competency across core service lines within the first 6-12 months.
  • Deliver accurate, compliant performance testing and certifications with a documented error rate of <1%.
  • Consistently meet daily/weekly productivity expectations by efficiently servicing multiple customer locations.
  • Maintain 100% on-time and complete service reports, documentation, and regulatory records.
  • Achieve high customer satisfaction scores (NPS, feedback, renewals, referrals) through exceptional service and communication.
  • Resolve equipment issues through effective troubleshooting while minimizing customer downtime.
  • Uphold company safety, quality, calibration, and compliance standards on every job site.
  • Demonstrate autonomy and strong time management by effectively planning routes, schedules, and priorities.
  • Contribute insights, process improvements, and best practices that enhance technician performance and customer experience across the organization.

What We're Looking For

  • Travel with this position can take you across the region up to 50% and must be able to accommodate that.
  • Curious, mechanically minded problem-solvers who enjoy diagnosing issues and working with their hands.
  • Strong communicators who can confidently interact with customers, explain findings, and build trust.
  • Reliable professionals with a high sense of ownership, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Individuals who thrive in autonomy-comfortable working independently, traveling, and managing their own schedule.
  • Adaptable learners who embrace change, ask questions, and continuously build technical expertise.
  • Detail-oriented thinkers committed to precision, safety, and regulatory compliance.
  • Technicians who remain calm under pressure and can troubleshoot in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
  • Teammates who model SSA's values-integrity, openness, urgency, autonomy, and embracing change.
  • Comfortable using technology-service software, tablets, reporting tools, measurement instruments, etc.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to visit multiple customer sites as part of the daily role.

Benefits

  • Equity ownership in SSA
  • 401k Match
  • 100% paid Medical Dental & Vision insurance
  • Health insurance (100% for employee and family)
  • Life insurance
  • Generous Paid time off
  • Parental leave

If you have the skills we are looking for, and want to be a part of the rocket ship we are building, we want to hear from you!!
