How much do biopharmaceutical manufacturing jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 16, 2026, the average hourly pay for biopharmaceutical manufacturing in the United States is $27.12, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $23.08 and $31.73 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is biopharmaceutical manufacturing?

Biopharmaceutical manufacturing involves producing medicines derived from biological sources, such as cells or tissues, using complex processes like cell culture and fermentation. It requires strict adherence to quality standards, often involves working with specialized equipment, and may require knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

What are some common challenges faced in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and how can new employees prepare for them?

One frequent challenge in biopharmaceutical manufacturing is maintaining strict compliance with regulatory standards, such as Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). New employees should be prepared to work in highly controlled environments where attention to detail and thorough documentation are essential. Additionally, adapting to rapidly changing production schedules and troubleshooting equipment or process issues are common aspects of the role. Proactively seeking training, asking questions, and staying current with industry best practices can help new team members succeed.

What jobs can you get with a biopharmaceutical manufacturing degree?

A biopharmaceutical manufacturing degree can lead to roles such as bioprocess technician, manufacturing associate, quality control analyst, or production operator. These jobs typically involve working with bioreactors, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and may require certifications or training in laboratory techniques and equipment operation.

What is the difference between Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing vs Pharmaceutical Manufacturing?

AspectBiopharmaceutical ManufacturingPharmaceutical Manufacturing
Required CredentialsBiotech or life sciences degrees, certifications in GMPPharmacy, chemistry degrees, GMP certifications
Work EnvironmentLaboratories, cleanrooms, biotech facilitiesManufacturing plants, laboratories, production lines
Industry UsageBiotech firms, biotech divisions of pharma companiesLarge pharmaceutical companies, generic drug producers

Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing focuses on producing biologic drugs like vaccines and monoclonal antibodies, requiring specialized biotech knowledge. Pharmaceutical Manufacturing generally involves chemical-based drugs, with a broader scope of chemical processing. Both roles require GMP certifications and work in regulated environments, but they differ in the types of products and technical expertise involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in biopharmaceutical manufacturing?

To thrive in Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing, you need a background in life sciences or engineering, an understanding of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and often a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with bioprocessing equipment, laboratory information management systems (LIMS), and quality control protocols is essential. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork are vital soft skills in this field. These skills ensure product safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient production of high-quality biopharmaceutical products.
