Job description

Job Summary

The Product Development Engineer III is responsible for leading the design, development, and improvement of complex products, ensuring quality and compliance with technical and regulatory requirements. This role owns key performance indicators (KPIs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) within their area, demonstrating strong accountability for outcomes and processes.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the full product development cycle, from concept through production and launch.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (design, marketing, manufacturing, quality) to define product specifications and technical requirements.
  • Own and track relevant KPIs for assigned projects, taking accountability for meeting performance and delivery targets.
  • Develop, maintain, and ensure adherence to SOPs related to product design, testing, and documentation processes.
  • Conduct research and analysis of new technologies, materials, and processes to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
  • Design, simulate, and prototype new products and components using advanced CAD/CAE tools.
  • Develop and execute test and validation plans to ensure product performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Analyze test data and feedback to identify issues and propose design or engineering solutions, applying strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Generate and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, drawings, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and test procedures.
  • Act as a technical mentor to junior engineers and participate in design reviews, fostering a collaborative, one-team mindset across the organization (One ATL mindset).
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations and relevant quality standards.
  • Manage product development projects, including planning, schedule tracking, and budget management.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in product development, preferably in the technology or medical device industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, PTC Creo, AutoCAD) and CAE (simulation) tools.
  • Demonstrated experience with the Product Development Life Cycle (PDLC).
  • Solid knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Experience designing plastic, metal, and/or electromechanical system components.
  • Ability to interpret and create engineering drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) specifications.
  • Familiarity with quality regulations (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 9001) and applicable product regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Proven accountability for owning KPIs and SOPs, with a track record of driving measurable results.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Project management experience is highly valued.
