Job Title:Â Coordinating Biomechanics Engineer
Department: Forensic Engineering
Location: Penns Park, PA
We are seeking a Coordinating Biomechanics Engineer with an engineering mindset and a strong interest in supporting a team of experts by providing case-specific technical expertise in this role. This individual possesses advanced knowledge and education in one or more forensic disciplines, including accident reconstruction (such as pedestrian/vehicle collisions, other transportation incidents, “who was driving” investigations, and heavy truck event data recorder analysis), biomechanics and human factors (evaluation of injury causation and consistency, including slip, trip, and fall analysis), and failure analysis (product, mechanical systems, structural, and related areas).
This role requires a high level of dedication to coordinating and executing tasks that support both individual cases and the broader forensic team. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong interest in evidence inspection and the use of advanced technologies and software. The ability to effectively present technical concepts to both small and large audiences is essential. A proactive, solution-oriented mindset and a genuine passion for the field of forensics are key to success in this position.
Responsibilities:
- Provide project support to experts who are investigating and analyzing accidents, failures, and injuries.
- Participate in field inspections (often onsite) with the expert team and observe the expert documenting the physical evidence.
- Utilize any combination of 3D laser scanners, motion capture technology, and other leading software to assist with forensic analysis.
- Assist with preservation of physical evidence.
- Observe the process of researching, reconstructing and analyzing all of the facts to determine what happened with your assigned cases.
- Observe the lifecycle of a case from the initial investigation and digital preservation of the evidence, to performing testing as instructed by the expert(s).
- Assist and support the experts with pre-deposition and pre-trial preparation of exhibits and reports.
- Assist the experts with data collection for publication in technical journals.
- Participate in the research and development of innovative research methodologies for publication in technical journals.
- Attend and conduct technical lectures, as assigned, to various audiences/groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineer, Biomedical Engineering, or Biomechanical Engineering, or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
- Flexibility and adaptability to field environments (including courtroom environments for testifying experts).
- Demonstrates strong ability to clearly communicate technical findings.
- Exhibits a passion for cause-and-effect analysis and a high level of curiosity when evaluating physical evidence.
- Shows enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development opportunities.
- Values opportunities to present and deliver technical content to a variety of audiences.
