General Summary:
The Laboratory Quality Program Manager is expected to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies governing the laboratory; CAP, CMS, JC, AABB, etc. Accountable to create processes and systems to monitor quality data and performance. Accountable to recommend, along with lab and pathology leadership, strategies to improve performance, safety and compliance. Must work closely with the PI department and ensure Bayhealth performance improvement standards are followed. Will attend applicable meetings and potentially present lab quality data results in various forums. Applies a combination of analytical, communication and reasoning skills to accurately and efficiently ensure that procedures adhere to safety and compliance rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards governing the Laboratory; for example, CAP, CMS, Joint Commission and AABB as well as any state/federal licensure. Serves as the department representative during all lab audits/inspections, assisting auditors with any inquiries and reporting findings to management.
2. Identifies and monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPI)s for the lab. Communicates with lab leadership and staff when targets are not achieved. Establishes the PI model to improve performance.
3. Works collaboratively with the technical supervisors to implement, maintain and regularly review quality control programs. Identifies and resolves technical problems ensuring appropriate remedial action is taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
4. Works collaboratively with the applicable technical supervisors to create, monitor and maintain relevant IQCP documents.
5. Tracks competencies for all applicable laboratory staff as well as staff performing Point-of-care testing. Works with the technical supervisors to devise streamlined competency documents for staff and holds accountability for the competency assessment program overall.
6. Presents quality metrics to leadership monthly and to the PI council, etc. Compiles a CAP-compliant year-end summary of the overall quality management of the laboratories to be reviewed and approved by the Medical Director.
7. Serves on relevant laboratory and organizational committees and work groups including the Performance Improvement Committee. Pursues knowledge of current and future advances in medical technology and applies to the laboratory. Remains aware of developments in the quality field by reading current technical literature, maintaining memberships in professional organizations and/or attending technical industry conferences/meetings.
8. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities
Required Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
  • Education: Bachelor Degree Medical Technology Or a Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • Credential(s): Certified Medical Technologist/Technician Or: MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT
  • Experience: Required: Four years' experience in laboratory medicine, and one year supervisory experience, such as a charge technologist or Lead Tech

Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
  • Education: Master Degree Business, Master Degree Related field
  • Credential(s): Six Sigma Lean Green Belt Certified
  • Experience: Preferred: Previous Quality Assurance experience
