How much do bioconjugation scientist jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for bioconjugation scientist in the United States is $112,400.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $105,000.00 and $120,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Bioconjugation Scientist?

A Bioconjugation Scientist typically spends their day designing and performing experiments to create and characterize conjugates of biomolecules, such as antibodies, proteins, or nucleic acids, with various chemical tags or drugs. Routine responsibilities include preparing reagents, optimizing reaction conditions, running purification and analytical assays, and documenting results in laboratory notebooks or electronic systems. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—such as analytical chemistry, biology, or process development—is frequent to ensure projects move efficiently from research to development stages. This role often requires meticulous attention to experimental detail, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and strong data interpretation skills. Regular team meetings and presentations are also common aspects of the work environment.

What is a Bioconjugation Scientist job?

A Bioconjugation Scientist specializes in developing and optimizing techniques to attach biomolecules, such as proteins, peptides, or antibodies, to other molecules like drugs, fluorophores, or nanoparticles. This work is critical in biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, and drug delivery systems. They design and perform chemical or enzymatic conjugation reactions, analyze conjugates for stability and functionality, and troubleshoot process challenges. Additionally, they collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve bioconjugation strategies for therapeutic and diagnostic applications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Bioconjugation Scientist position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bioconjugation Scientist, you need a strong background in chemistry, biochemistry, or related life sciences, with hands-on experience in protein modification, organic synthesis, and analytical techniques. Familiarity with tools such as HPLC, mass spectrometry, and relevant software for data analysis is common, along with knowledge of GLP/GMP practices. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear communication are vital soft skills for collaborating on interdisciplinary research projects. These capabilities enable precise and efficient development of bioconjugated molecules for applications in diagnostics, therapeutics, and biotechnology.
