Sansom Staffing has partnered with a growing printing and bindery company in Brooklyn Park to add a Bindery Cutter Operator to their team.

This role is responsible for operating a SABER hydraulic guillotine cutter alongside a paper jogger to accurately trim printed materials in a high-volume trade bindery environment. The ideal candidate will take pride in producing clean, precise cuts while maintaining efficiency and adhering to strict quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate SABER hydraulic paper cutter (programming, back gauge, clamp settings)
  • Use a paper jogger to align and square lifts before cutting
  • Read and interpret job tickets, cut programs, and layouts
  • Program and execute automated cutting sequences for repeat jobs
  • Accurately cut large sheets of paper to tight tolerances
  • Monitor and adjust: Clamp Pressure, Blade depth, and condition, and back gauge positioning
  • Inspect finished product for square cuts, correct dimensions, and clean edges
  • Maintain efficient workflow between jogging → cutting → stacking
  • Perform routine maintenance on blade changes, tracking sharpness, cleaning, and lubrication

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating SABER or similar hydraulic guillotine cutters
  • Familiarity with paper joggers and material handling workflows
  • Ability to program or recall cutting sequences
  • Strong understanding of grain direction, lift handling, and cutting tolerances
  • Proficiency with measurements (fractions, decimals, metric)
  • High attention to detail and consistency
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
  • Ability to safely handle large paper lifts (often 50+ lbs)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years in a trade bindery or commercial print environment
  • Experience with large-format cutters (36"–60")
  • Familiarity with SABER X-15 or similar models
  • Knowledge of upstream/downstream processes (press, folding, stitching, etc.)
