About the Role:
Join the Uwill team to support student mental health. Be part of the solution that provides immediacy, student choice, and eliminates barriers for students to receive the mental health support they need. As a Uwill Counselor you will be offering teletherapy sessions by video, phone, or chat message to students at our partner institutions. This is a 1099 independent contractor role with flexible scheduling.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Manage an active clinical caseload from the initial session through graduation from care.
  • Conduct therapy sessions via video, telephone, or chat, providing real-time support in a tele-health environment.
  • Apply evidence-based therapeutic practices and tailored SMART goals tailored to individual needs.
  • Practice culturally competent care to meet the needs of a diverse client base including but not limited to: first-time therapy seekers, BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation students, veterans, and athletes.
  • Adhere to the risk assessment and management process of Uwill, including assessing for risk during the initial session with a student and as needed thereafter.
  • Document all sessions and clinical interactions within time frame expectations.
  • Respond to student messages in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Master's degree in a relevant mental-health field.
  • At least 2 years of telehealth therapy experience using a variety of clinical modalities.
  • Independent clinical license allowing unsupervised practice (e.g., LPC, LMHC, LCSW, LICSW, LMFT, PsyD).
  • Ability to provide therapy in English and at least one additional language.
    • High-priority languages include (but are not limited to): American Sign Language (ASL), Mandarin, Cantonese, Hmong, Farsi, Korean, Tagalog, Somali, French, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Portuguese, Thai, Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and other less-common or heritage languages.
  • Current professional liability insurance.
  • HIPAA-compliant private workspace suitable for telehealth sessions.
  • Ability to provide sessions via Zoom on a computer or laptop running Mac OS 10.13+ or Windows 10+, with a camera, microphone, and internet speed of at least 10 Mbps.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:
  • Excellent interpersonal, and listening communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical-thinking skills, use of sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of people of various ages and backgrounds, student developmental needs, nationality, culture, faith/religion, language difference, ability differences, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
  • Possess the ability to work with a wide range of individuals presenting mental health concerns across broad levels of acuity including first-time therapy seekers.
  • Ability to assess risk and refer to Uwill's Clinical Support team as needed.
  • Ability to respond with empathy, professionalism, and meet students where they are.
