Job description

K-2 Spanish Teacher (SPED Preferred) 

DC Bilingual Public Charter School is recruiting a K-2nd-grade Spanish Special Education certified teacher to provide highly effective, inclusive instruction to students with disabilities. Special Education teachers at DC Bilingual serve as co-teachers, sharing responsibility for planning, instruction, assessment, and classroom culture. Teachers support DC Bilingual’s mission through the collaborative implementation of our Two-Way Immersion bilingual program, fostering a learning community that ensures high academic achievement in English and Spanish, develops leadership, and values all cultures. All staff are expected to actively engage in our Professional Learning Community (PLC) and contribute to a culture of collaboration, equity, and continuous improvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide rigorous, standards-aligned instruction by creating a safe, nurturing, and intellectually challenging learning environment.
  • Implement DC Bilingual’s content curriculum, school-wide instructional strategies, non-negotiables, and best practices.
  • Co-plan and co-teach using inclusive instructional models (e.g., push-in, small group, parallel teaching) to ensure meaningful access to grade-level content.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including scaffolding, accommodations, and modifications aligned to IEPs.
  • Establish and maintain a strong learning culture aligned with No Nonsense Nurture expectations for student relationships and behavior.
  • Design data-driven lesson and unit plans aligned to standards and objectives, collaboratively with co-teachers and instructional support staff.
  • Formally and informally assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.
  • Analyze student data daily, weekly, and quarterly using school-wide data trackers to inform instruction and interventions.
  • Complete student progress reports and participate in quarterly parent-teacher conferences and additional meetings as needed.
  • Build strong partnerships with families through ongoing, positive, bilingual communication.
  • Conduct family outreach, including conferences, home visits, and school events to encourage active family participation in student learning.

  • Other duties as assigned 
If certified in Special Education 
  • Provide direct specialized instruction to students with disabilities using a variety of instructional strategies and service delivery models.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and OSSE requirements.
  • Ensure all accommodations, modifications, and related services are implemented with fidelity across instructional settings.
  • Maintain accurate and timely special education documentation, records, and compliance timelines using PowerSchool and other required systems.
  • Collaborate with the SPED Manager, related service providers (e.g., speech, OT, counseling), and general education teachers to support students holistically.
  • Participate in MDT meetings, eligibility meetings, annual reviews, and reevaluations.
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and provide behavior support as needed.
  • Assist in the implementation of the inclusion/resource model embedded within our Two-Way Immersion Bilingual program

ADDITIONAL DCB STAFF REQUIREMENTS

  • Meet all expectations as outlined by the DC Bilingual Leading and Learning Framework
  • Meet all expectations as outlined in the Employee handbook and Standards of Conduct
  • Abide by the DC Bilingual 7 Agreements
  • Attend school wide Justice, Equity and Inclusion trainings and affinity group meetings
  • Demonstrate dedication to the Professional Learning Community (PLC) by supporting school-wide initiatives and programs
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, or equivalent
  • DC Praxis Passing Score
  • Native Spanish speaker
  • Bilingual preferred but not required (Spanish/English)
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Preferred two or more years of experience (preferably in an urban or culturally diverse setting)

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
