Job description

Bilingual Teacher
Position Summary
Hazel Crest School District 152.5 is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Bilingual Teacher to support English Learners (ELs) through high-quality instruction. The Bilingual Teacher will provide culturally responsive instruction aligned to Illinois Learning Standards, support students' language acquisition, and collaborate with general education teachers, families, and support staff to ensure academic success for bilingual learners.


Essential Functions

  • Deliver effective bilingual instruction in core academic content and language development aligned with district curriculum and Illinois Learning Standards
  • Support students' development of English language proficiency
  • Implement instructional strategies that differentiate for language proficiency levels and diverse learning needs
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress using formative and summative assessments
  • Develop and maintain lesson plans that reflect best practices in bilingual education and sheltered instruction
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, ESL staff, special education staff, and administrators to support student achievement
  • Participate in IEP, MTSS, and student support meetings as appropriate
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with families, including providing translated materials and conferences when needed
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with all district, state, and federal requirements related to bilingual and EL programming
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and district initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned by administration


Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office and school building environments. 
Required:


  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Bilingual Education Endorsement
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of bilingual education laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills
     

Preferred:

  • Experience working with English Learners in a K8 school setting
  • Familiarity with WIDA standards and ACCESS for ELLs
  • Experience using culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Education

  • Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
