Position Summary:

Risk Manager II leads risk management activities for assigned areas, mentors team members, and drives process improvement
initiatives that support organizational risk reduction and compliance


Responsibilities

Essential Functions:
• Leads the administration of the risk management plan for assigned areas, driving strategic initiatives that reduce organizational risk and enhance patient safety.
• Coordinates and leads complex risk management projects with cross-departmental impact, ensuring effective collaboration and measurable outcomes.
• Conducts advanced data analytics to identify emerging risk trends, inform decision-making, and recommend targeted interventions.
• Designs, delivers, and evaluates educational programs that empower staff to proactively mitigate risk and reduce liability exposure.
• Develops and refines risk management policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory standards and best practices.
• Represents Orlando Health in high-level interactions with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external stakeholders, advocating for organizational interests and compliance.
• Ensures compliance with risk management related standards by the Joint Commission and other accrediting agencies, directly influencing patient safety, quality of care, and minimizing organizational liability.
• Serves as a trusted advisor to physicians, nurses, and staff, providing expert guidance and timely solutions to complex professional liability and facility-related matters.
• Receives and investigates reports of product problems, ensuring appropriate responses to federal, state, and manufacturer reporting requirements.
• Champions transparent disclosure processes for medical errors, driving organizational accountability and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Facilitates and oversees root cause analysis investigations and reporting of adverse events, ensuring timely resolution and organizational learning.
• Ensures compliance with various codes, laws, and regulations concerning patient care, including those mandated by state and federal agencies and incident reporting requirements; includes investigation activities of federal, state, and local enforcement authorities.
• Works collaboratively with the executive team to implement risk and safety initiatives.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

• Implements facility- or area-wide systems for risk identification, investigation, and reduction, utilizing a network of informational sources and subject matter experts.
• Conducts proactive risk surveys and inspections of patient care areas, providing actionable recommendations to minimize loss potential and enhance safety.
• Analyzes operational and clinical processes to identify opportunities for risk mitigation and process improvement.
• Mentors and develops new risk management staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional growth, and knowledge sharing.
• Participates in committees and task forces that are focused on patient safety, risk reduction, and compliance, contributing insights and leadership.
• Monitors legislative and regulatory developments related to healthcare risk management, communicating relevant updates to stakeholders and adopting practices as needed.
• Aggregates and analyzes data on patient injuries, incident trends, and sentinel events, maintaining statistical records to support organizational learning and improvement.

• Advises administrators and department managers on risk management findings and recommendations, supporting the design and implementation of department-specific risk management programs.
• Provides expert support during on-call responsibilities, offering guidance and escalation for clinical risk management services.
• Cross-trained in multiple areas of risk management to provide coverage and support for other risk manager roles as needed.
• Leads and participates in organizational projects to drive innovation and continuous improvement in risk management practices.
• Delivers in-service training to hospital personnel to enhance awareness of their role in reducing facility or assigned areas liability exposure.
• Demonstrates all competencies required by Florida Statute
• Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Education/Training:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or a closely related field.

• Five (5) years of clinical or medical legal experience, to include three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory capacity and two (2) years of Risk Management experience.
• Advanced PC literacy required.
