How much do best tipping jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 22, 2026, the average hourly pay for best tipping in the United States is $23.62, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $22.36 and $25.00 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is best tipping?

'Best Tipping' typically refers to the recommended or standard amount to tip for various services, particularly in hospitality, food service, and other industries where tipping is customary. It involves understanding when, how much, and to whom tips should be given to show appreciation for good service. The 'best' approach varies depending on cultural norms, the type of service provided, and local tipping etiquette. Learning the best tipping practices helps ensure fair compensation for service workers and fosters positive customer-service provider relationships.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in tipping roles within the hospitality industry?

One of the main challenges for professionals whose compensation relies heavily on tips, such as servers or bartenders, is the variability of income due to fluctuations in customer volume and generosity. This unpredictability requires strong budgeting skills and adaptability. Additionally, workers often need to handle high-pressure situations during peak hours while maintaining excellent customer service. Collaborating effectively with kitchen staff and teammates is crucial to ensuring smooth service, which can directly impact tipping outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a bartender, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bartender, you need strong mixology skills, customer service expertise, and typically a food handler's or bartending certification. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, beverage inventory management tools, and bar equipment is often required. Excellent communication, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities help bartenders create positive guest experiences and manage busy shifts. These skills ensure efficient operations, satisfied customers, and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Job description

About Tipping Point

Tipping Point finds, funds, and strengthens the most promising poverty-fighting solutions so one day everyone in the Bay Area can prosper. Since 2005, Tipping Point has invested over $475 million in the community to support organizations, advance policies, and develop new ideas to increase economic opportunity. Last year, our investments funded life-changing services in housing, early childhood, education, and employment for more than 100,000 of our neighbors across the Bay Area. Visit www.tippingpoint.org to learn more.

Values

Tipping Point's core values are at the heart of everything we do and we look for individuals who share our commitments:

  • We cultivate community because we know we are more powerful together.
  • We practice gratitude.
  • We hold ourselves accountable to achieving impact for and with the communities we serve.
  • We relentlessly pursue equity because one's background and identities should not predetermine one's opportunities.

Position Overview

The Development Assistant is a self-starter who is extremely detail-oriented and passionate about changing the landscape of poverty in the Bay Area. As part of the Development Team, the Development Assistant will provide high-quality development systems support, with a specific focus on gift processing and maintenance of Tipping Point's Salesforce database. They are a team player, capable of supporting and collaborating across teams.

This position reports to the Development Strategy + Operations Director.

Responsibilities

Gifts Processing

  • Process all incoming gifts and issue acknowledgment letters within Tipping Point's standard 48-hour period.
  • Create and maintain electronic files for all donors and gifts.
  • Act as liaison to the Finance team during monthly gift reconciliation and serve as the lead point of contact for the Development team on the annual audit.
  • Assist with pledge tracking, invoicing, and fulfillment.

Data + Reporting

  • Maintain clean and consistent donor data in Salesforce in accordance with best practices.
  • Partner with the Development Operations Team and Technology Director to evaluate current systems and identify areas for improvement to support strategic growth.
  • Build monthly dashboards and reports that highlight trends and inform strategic planning throughout the year.
  • Regularly produce giving data to help guide fundraising strategy and manage data updates after events and portfolio reviews.

Development Support

  • Provide project support for the Development team, including assisting on all mailings and donor events
  • Manage scheduling and logistics for senior members of the development team
  • Enter selected invoices into Salesforce and prepare monthly credit card reports into Expensify
  • Provide impeccable and seamless customer service to Tipping Point donors; ensure that every donation processing and general request interaction is a great experience.
  • Respond to all donor inquiries within 24 hours.
  • Assist with logistics of donor cultivation and acknowledgment events (some nights and weekends required).

All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

In addition to our core values, Tipping Point staff exhibit four core competencies: ability to be flexible in a constantly shifting environment, strong communication skills, ability to work well on a team, and ability to continuously problem solve in the face of challenges.

Additionally, the Development Assistant must have:

  • Relevant professional experience in a role requiring acute attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce (or a similar CRM solution) strongly preferred, or the desire and ability to learn quickly.
  • Track record of exceptional customer service and flexibility.
  • Experience managing projects requiring prioritization across competing tasks and advanced organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication (oral + written)
  • The ability to handle sensitive information with precision and in a confidential manner.
  • The initiative, enthusiasm, and a willingness to pitch in.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced professional setting, managing multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with other staff and external parties (e.g. donors, partners, grantees, and others).
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience in or strong interest to learn about fundraising and philanthropy.

Nice to have:

  • Local knowledge of the Bay Area philanthropic community

*"Nice to have" really means just that; it's entirely possible that you don't have any of these and are still a great fit. It's not expected that any single candidate would have expertise across all of these areas - we're looking for candidates that are particularly strong in a few areas, and have some interest and capabilities in others.

Salary + Classification

Tipping Point is committed to paying competitive wages. In an effort to increase equity, because we know that salary negotiations tend to have an unfair bias, we do not participate in a salary negotiation process for any candidate. We will make our best offer, and it will be the same regardless of the candidate. The annual starting salary for the Development Assistant role is $73,057. This is a non-exempt position as defined by state and federal law. Non-exempt employees paid on an hourly basis and are eligible for overtime pay.

Hybrid Work Environment
At Tipping Point, we believe that in-person connection is essential to fostering strong collaboration, creativity, and community. To support this, staff are expected to be in the office Tuesday through Thursday. Some roles may require community meetings, which can be scheduled during these in-person days. On Mondays and Fridays, staff may choose to work remotely or from the office, depending on their preference. Our office remains open five days a week to encourage face-to-face collaboration and to provide a welcoming space for those who thrive working onsite. We also extend the use of our office to our grantee partners as a shared space for meetings and connection. Tipping Point will periodically assess this hybrid work model and may adjust it as needed to best serve our mission and team.
