Job description

Full Time & Part Time Positions Open for multiple of our locations!

Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and provide warm, friendly customer service in a timely fashion.
  • Operate a traditional walk-up/ordering counter station, as well as a drive-thru station.
  • Coffee shops are a third space for the community โ€“ build relationships with our customers through small talk and other ways of customer engagement (remembering names, regular orders, product recommendations, etc.)
  • Operate our POS system efficiently and accurately to ensure speedy service and correct tickets.
  • Prompt upkeep and sanitation of customer seating areas, condiment counters and bathrooms throughout the shift.
  • Prepare and serve food & drinks in accordance with health code guidelines and Coffee Tree Roasters standards (such as dialing-in espresso, following ratios for brewing, recipes for specialty drinks).
  • Operating coffee shop equipment, including but not limited to batch brewers, semiautomatic and superautomatic espresso machines, blenders and manual coffee brewers, etc. safely and skillfully.
  • Taste current and new coffee offerings, specialty drinks and food items to familiarize yourself with our menu.
  • Learn about our products to answer customer questions, and to sell our items with confidence and enthusiasm.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work environment in a busy, fast-paced setting.
  • Routinely perform opening, closing, and shift change procedures accordingly to task checklists.
  • Weekly detail cleaning to ensure customer and work areas are properly taken care of.
  • Restock and organize operational inventory and retail shelves throughout the shift using FIFO standards.
  • Receive and check in routine deliveries into our inventory system to ensure stock accuracy.
  • Communicate with your co-workers and managers to work as a team to resolve issues, tackle projects and make improvements to service and daily operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:

  • Coffee experience & knowledge is preferred but not required. At minimum, an open mind and willingness to learn about coffee and how their unique terroir, how itโ€™s roasted and brewed can affect flavor.
  • Sales experience is preferred but not required. Having knowledge of our products and offerings to upsell and suggest add-ons and recommendations of high-value items will be part of the job goals.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance.
  • Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Adhere to company policies & procedures reviewed at the time of hire (such as attendance guidelines, drug & alcohol policy, general conduct policy, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills โ€“ you will be working closely with a small team per shift and interacting with a variety of customers in the community.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and move with a sense of urgency in a fast-paced setting.
  • Receptive to constructive criticism to improve workflow and operations
  • Promoting good, open communication to cultivate a positive work environment
  • Problem solving skills, sometimes in high-stress, challenging situations.

Physical Demands

  • Standing and moving on your feet for 4-8 hour shifts (with scheduled breaks in-between)
  • Lifting and moving items up to 50lbs - cases of milk, cups, dairy/tea/chocolate powders, etc.
  • Repetitive movements involved in coffee & espresso preparation, milk steaming - tamping coffee, locking in/removing portafilters, etc.

Training

  • Training is paid. It will span over 5-10 days at the store.
  • Initial two days will include on-boarding paperwork, company policy review, customer service guidelines, POS training, introduction to coffee, coffee skills (tasting, brewing, espresso bar), drink recipes, shop standards and best practices.
  • Additional days will be on-shift with coaching and guidance from the management team.
