This role is 100% onsite at our facility in Timberlake, NC
About the Role
Voltage Energy Storage is seeking a hands-on Test Engineer to support the testing, commissioning, and field validation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and microgrid solutions.
This role is execution-focused, requiring strong electrical troubleshooting skills and the ability to work directly with hardware in lab and field environments. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working on-site to bring systems from installation to operational readiness.
What You'll Do
System Testing & Commissioning
  • Design and execute system-level testing of BESS and microgrid systems, including functional, performance, and safety validation
  • Support system commissioning, startup, and on-site validation activities
  • Perform hands-on testing and system bring-up for integrated systems (inverters, batteries, EMS)

Test Setup & Field Execution
  • Build and configure test setups, including wiring, instrumentation, and data collection
  • Work with electrical systems in a safe and controlled manner
  • Operate test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and load banks

Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
  • Diagnose system issues during testing and field operation
  • Perform root cause analysis and support resolution with engineering teams
  • Track issues and ensure proper documentation and closure

Compliance & Support
  • Support testing related to UL, IEC, and NEC requirements
  • Coordinate with external labs and certification activities as needed
  • Ensure systems meet applicable safety and regulatory standards

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with electrical, mechanical, and controls engineers
  • Collaborate with global teams on testing execution and feedback
  • Provide real-world input to improve system design and reliability

Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to improving testing processes and field execution efficiency
  • Capture lessons learned from field testing and deployments
  • Support development of practical testing guidelines and documentation

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • 4-6+ years of experience in system testing, commissioning, or field service
  • Hands-on experience working with electrical systems
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in hardware and integrated systems
  • Familiarity with basic test equipment and electrical diagnostics
  • Ability to work independently in field environments

Work Environment & Travel
  • Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional traveling to customer sites and events (traveling up to 25%). Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
