Description


Serves as the primary support resource for all retort processes within the department. Accountable for all aspects of daily performance in the Retort area, including worker safety, product quality, and meeting production targets. Coordinates the team's efforts and works directly with operators to minimize process downtime, identify opportunities for improvement and resolve any issues or conflicts that may immediately impact performance. Develops, motivates, and clearly communicates expectations to all team members in the department.


Responsibilities and Duties:


Expert in all processes within Retort department

Adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures and maintains conformity with Quality Policies.

Works in conjunction with production supervisor and manager to meet production line goals.

in throughput at target levels by responding to production issues in a timely manner, leading initial troubleshooting efforts, and escalating issues to Supervisor as required

Works with Retort Specialist(s) to ensure all Retort SOPs are being followed and executed properly.

Facilitate the training plan for new operators and ensure all Retort area employees are adequately developed to execute their work assignments

Ability to work with other key departments: Sanitation, Quality, and Maintenance.

Have an understanding of Berner's product cycle and how the retort process applies to it.

Participate in periodic performance reviews and provide feedback on Retort team members

Ensure process documentation is filled out correctly and delivered to proper locations on time

Ensure disposition reports are completed with accurate information as needed

Verify correct flow of materials and minimize waste within the Retort process

Coordinate major activities such as changeovers, clean-ups, set-ups, and shutdowns

Organize break schedules and monitor break times for all Retort employees

Change operator labor assignments and perform operator duties as needed to maintain production

Communicate with Supervisors and other Leads, and managers to avoid interruptions in production between departments

Ensure effective verbal and radio communication when needed.

Promote and ensure compliance of Berner GMP, EHS, Food Safety and personal conduct standards by all team members as required in the Retort area

Lead all CILR activities to ensure compliance with published schedules

Maintain performance record in compliance with company policy.

Able to competently perform task requirements for all positions within the department as needed

Able to interpret production schedules to identify product codes and correct recipes needed

Able to use MES effectively to ensure downtime and job data is accurate

Communicate effectively and respectfully with all team members


Experience/Training


Demonstrated knowledge of Retort Process by earning a Better Food Processing Certificate

1- 3 Years' Experience of Lead Experience (preferred)/Production-Manufacturing Experience within a food/beverage manufacturing setting.

Prior Retort Experience - Highly Preferred.

Must be to walk and/or stand for 12 hours

Ability to work with and in warm temperatures

Ability to walk and maintain potential wet surfaces

May be required to lift or carry no more than 55lbs

Must be able to stoop, kneel, crawl under, crawl over objects

Must be able to mop, use hand tools such as scrub brushes, stirrers, putty knives, and scrapers

Must be able to work at or above shoulder height


Pay Range: $20.00-25.00 - Hourly (based on experience); For the PM shift there is a $1.00 Shift Differential for this position.
