Our experienced Bench Carpenters & Craftsmen are an essential part of the creation that defines high-quality craftsmanship at Detroit Woodworking. From precision joinery to final assembly, every detail is thoughtfully executed to ensure excellence in form, function, and finish.

Key Responsibilities

As a Bench Carpenter & Craftsman, you will:

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and cut lists to accurately fabricate and assemble millwork and cabinetry.
  • Measure, cut, shape, and fit materials using both hand tools and woodworking machinery.
  • Execute precise joinery, assembly, and fitting to ensure superior craftsmanship.
  • Work with a variety of materials including hardwoods, veneers, MDF, and laminate.
  • Inspect and verify accuracy of dimensions and alignment before final assembly or finishing.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work area in accordance with Detroit Woodworking’s safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team members, leads, and project managers to meet production goals and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives and continuous improvement efforts throughout the shop.
  • Uphold Detroit Woodworking’s quality standards through continuous feedback and attention to detail.

  • Experienced in furniture / cabinet making / millworking
  • Creating custom and production wood furniture from shop drawings and sketches
  • Participating in the design of interior woodwork and residential furniture
  • Experienced working with hardwoods, veneers, and laminate
  • Experienced and accuracy machining furniture grade lumber using various operations
  • Experienced on small to large scale millwork projects from fabrication through final installation

We’re looking for someone who:

· Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in custom woodworking, cabinetry, or architectural millwork fabrication.

· Strong knowledge of woodworking techniques, joinery, and shop tools/machinery.

· Ability to read and interpret detailed shop drawings and specifications.

· Excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.

· Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work independently or as part of a collaborative team.
