At Oakwood Creative Care, we believe music has the power to awaken memories, build confidence, foster connection, and improve quality of life. We're looking for a talented, creative musician who is passionate about sharing their gifts with older adults through engaging, interactive experiences.This is not a traditional performance role-we're looking for someone who can create meaningful opportunities for members to learn, participate, create, and connect through music.
What You'll Do
Design and facilitate engaging music experiences that encourage creativity, self-expression, lifelong learning, and social connection. We welcome instructors who want to build programming around their unique talents and interests, including:
- Choirs and community singing
- Drumming and percussion circles
- Ukulele or guitar instruction
- Beginner instrument exploration
- Songwriting and lyric creation
- Music appreciation and history
- Rhythm and movement classes
- Music and storytelling
- Intergenerational music experiences
- Other innovative music programs that inspire engagement
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead interactive, person-centered music classes for older adults with cognitive and physical challenges.
- Create an energetic, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every member feels successful.
- Encourage participation, creativity, confidence, and meaningful social interaction.
- Use music as a tool to promote emotional well-being, lifelong learning, movement, and joy.
- Collaborate with OCC's interdisciplinary team to support each member's overall wellness.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
- Bring fresh ideas and creative programming that aligns with Oakwood's mission of enhancing quality of life.
Qualifications
- Experience teaching music, facilitating group music experiences, or leading community music programs.
- Proficiency in vocal instruction and/or one or more musical instruments.
- Strong communication and group facilitation skills.
- Creative, energetic, flexible, and passionate about making a difference through music.
- Ability to adapt activities for participants with varying physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities.
- Experience working with older adults, individuals living with dementia, or people with disabilities is preferredbut a heart for serving others is essential.
