Preschool Lead Teacher
2026-2027 School Year
LOCATION / HOURS
We have two classroom options for the Preschool Lead Teacher. Please indicate your desired option in your cover letter and/or in the applications questions.
Option 1 - 4's Classroom
Description: Designed for developing readiness and success in kindergarten. Emphasis is placed on the development of academic skills through structured activities, including math concepts, lower/upper case letters, letter sound recognition, writing/sight words, and developing independence.
Location: Spring Avenue Recreation Center or Main Street Recreation Center
Class Time: Monday-Friday, 8:45-11:15am
Hours: Approximately 15.75 hrs./wk. (includes prep time) during the school year (August - May); includes prep before school begins and clean-up after school ends
Option 2 - Tiny 2's Classroom
Description: This class is designed to meet the unique needs of 2-year-olds preparing for their next school year. We focus on developing social skills, introducing a structured classroom environment, and encouraging learning through play. Play-based activities are central to the program, fostering a fun and engaging atmosphere for the children.
Location: Spring Avenue Recreation Center
Class Time: Monday-Thursday, 9:30-11am
Hours: Approximately 10 hrs./wk. (includes prep time) during the school year (August - May); includes prep before school begins and clean-up after school ends
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the Manager of Early Childhood Services, the Lead Teacher for the Preschool class is responsible for planning and implementing daily curriculum and activities as well as classroom management. Develop daily schedules with learning outcomes and monitor children's attendance, progress and communicate/update parents. Follow safety guidelines while providing a safe and comfortable environment for the children. Offer quality customer service. Additional duties include but are not limited to, promoting the preschool program, room set up and regular cleaning, attending staff meetings and trainings, research and purchase of educational materials and supplies, and other duties as assigned. This is an at-will position.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAINING
  • The ideal candidate must be at least 21 years of age or older and a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • An Associates or Bachelor's degree in Child Development/Early Childhood Education is preferred, or relevant combination of training and experience.
  • Previous teaching experience required.
  • Must be friendly and creative with the desire to engage and educate children.
  • Must have strong communication skills in both verbal and written format to communicate effectively with staff, children, and parents and provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to maintain discretion with regard to confidential matters and/or information.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to act calmly and effectively under pressure or in difficult situations.
  • Solid computer and keyboard skills preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task a plus.
  • Certification in First Aid and CPR is required but will be provided if not current.
