Job Summary:

The Senior Graphic Designer develops and designs marketing and corporate communications materials for MTA headquarters and its operating agencies across print, digital, signage, and environmental applications.

This role includes creating internal and external communications, ADA-compliant signage, and passenger-focused mapping and wayfinding systems that improve clarity, accessibility, and the customer experience across complex transit environments.

Responsibilities also include maintaining MTA graphic standards and service identity systems, overseeing print production for major projects, and supervising work produced by staff and freelance contractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for designing and supervising all promotional, collateral, and advertising materials for MTA's in-house clients and operating agencies.
  • The Sr Graphic Designer works closely with multiple designers, copywriters, digital and social media strategists, videographers, and the marketing production team to design, schedule, and coordinate the production of all project deliverables.
  • Assist the Deputy Creative Director of Design to execute creative concepts and ensure high-quality and timely output of products that will engage customers and drive awareness and visitation to all of MTA's information channels.
  • Develop customer communication strategies in collaboration with senior management.
  • Collaborate with team members and other MTA staff to conceptualize, plan, and execute video projects.
  • Keep abreast of trends and best practices in commercial design, animation, and film to continually improve MTA's creative products and processes.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Mastery of supporting applications including InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and, Adobe After Effects
  • Competency in conceptualizing, planning, and managing design projects from start to completion.
  • Familiarity with shared storage and cloud-based collaborative workflows.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all internal levels within a given organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact well with external agencies. External agencies may include the Governor's Office for New York State, New York City government, elected and other public officials, as well as any staff located at other federal or state agencies or authorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a high-profile, high-pressure environment effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.
  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities and quantitative skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in graphic design or advertising. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working in graphic design, video editing, and preferably at a high-end branding/design firm or an ad agency.

The Following is/are preferred:

  • Prior experience working at an ad agency or in-house creative team.
  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.

Other Information

May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)

Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.
