What you will do at the Y:
As a Before School Lead, you'll help lead a licensed before and after-school program, working directly with children while supporting the daily operations of the site. You will partner with the Site Coordinator to create a safe, engaging, and inclusive program for children and families.
Work Schedule
This is an in-person, part-time position working directly with children.
Work hours are a combination of:
- Morning shifts before school
- Full-day shifts (up to 8 hours) on non-school days and during school breaks
Schedules vary based on school start and end times and program needs. Additional hours may be available after school and during the summer through employment at a YMCA Day Camp.

Job duties/Responsibilities
Work as part of a supportive team to provide a high-quality program.
Implement and lead games, activities, and enrichment opportunities.
Supervise all children and activities within program area
Be a positive role model for children every day.
Help ensure children's safety and well-being.
Support family communication and child check-in/check-out.
Assist with daily program setup, organization, and site operations.
Maintain materials, equipment, and program facility
Comply with state and local regulations as well as YMCA standards and procedures
Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards
Attend and participate in family events, program activities, and staff meetings as directed
Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Minimum age 18
1-2 years' experience working with children, preferred
Meet educational and experience qualifications established by Dept of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF)
o Have a high school diploma or equivalent;
o Have completed twelve college credits in any one hundred-level or above college coursework within five years of employment
Provide documentation of all certification and training requirements established by the DCYF, including position prerequisites, current negative TB test, fully vaccinated for MMR/other required vaccinations*, and portable background check
Plan, organize, and implement high-quality developmentally appropriate programming
Fluency in a second language preferred
*Medical or religious exemptions may be possible

Physical Demands:
As directed, lead and participate in a range of activities in indoor/outdoor settings. Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise program activities. Staff may be required to move weights of approximately 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
