Beer Manager information

What is a Beer Manager?

A Beer Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the beer selection, inventory, and sales at a bar, restaurant, brewery, or retail store. They curate the beer list, manage supplier relationships, and ensure the quality and freshness of beer offerings. Beer Managers may also train staff on beer knowledge, coordinate events such as tastings, and track trends to keep the selection appealing to customers. Their role combines product expertise with business management skills to maximize sales and customer satisfaction.

What is the difference between Beer Manager vs Bartender?

AspectBeer ManagerBartender
Required CredentialsFood handler's permit, management experienceAlcohol service certification, bartending license
Work EnvironmentBar, restaurant, brewery managementBar, nightclub, restaurant
Industry UsageOversees beer inventory, staff, and salesPrepares and serves drinks, interacts with customers

The Beer Manager focuses on managing beer inventory, staff, and sales within a bar or brewery setting, requiring management skills and relevant permits. In contrast, a Bartender primarily prepares and serves drinks, including beer, directly to customers. While both roles involve beer, the Beer Manager has a broader supervisory role, whereas the Bartender is customer-facing and service-oriented.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Beer Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Beer Manager, you need strong product knowledge of beers, inventory management skills, and experience in retail or hospitality, often supported by certifications like Cicerone or similar beverage programs. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory tracking software, and beverage ordering platforms is typically required. Excellent customer service, negotiation, and leadership abilities help you build relationships with vendors, staff, and customers. These skills ensure effective inventory control, high sales performance, and a positive customer experience in a competitive beverage market.

How does a Beer Manager typically collaborate with vendors and distributors to ensure a diverse and high-quality beer selection?

A Beer Manager regularly communicates and negotiates with vendors and distributors to source a wide variety of beers, including local craft, regional, and international brands. This involves attending tastings, reviewing new product offerings, and analyzing customer preferences to keep the selection fresh and appealing. Effective collaboration helps secure favorable pricing, exclusive releases, and promotional support, which are all essential for meeting sales targets and maintaining a competitive edge. Building strong relationships with suppliers also allows Beer Managers to stay ahead of industry trends and respond quickly to market demand.

Company Introduction

IT ALL STARTED 35 YEARS AGO WITH TWO GUYS DRIVEN BY HUNGER
The year was 1982.
Jim Disbrow and Scott Lowery had recently moved to Ohio from Buffalo, New York. All was fine until one day when the two were craving wings. Not just ordinary wings, but authentic Buffalo, New York-style chicken wings. With none to be found nearby, Jim and Scott had two choices: road trip to New York, or open a wing joint close to home. Lucky for us, they chose the latter. Hence, the beginning of Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck, now Buffalo Wild Wings, the welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with a front-row seat for every sports fan that offers 21 mouth-watering signature sauces and seasonings.
