Job description

About Altanova:
Altanova is a leading pluridisciplinary consulting firm focused on sustainable innovation. Our Sustainable Real Estate team applies a strong foundation in engineering and technology to high-performance building design, retrofit, and operations. We are a focused team of engineers and consultants dedicated to helping our clients achieve economic success while positively transforming their environmental and social impact through grounded solutions.

Role Overview:
We are seeking inquisitive and technically curious senior energy engineers with a minimum of 5 years of combined experience in Building Systems Commissioning and Energy Modeling. The ideal candidates have "the mind of an engineer", a desire to innovate, and apply their skills to create practical solutions that transform building (and portfolio) performance through design, retrofit, and operations. We welcome candidates with a strong technical background who bring a deep understanding of building physics, engineering, and a robust modeling understanding.

Joining our sustainable real estate team means a unique opportunity to be involved with a variety of unique and ambitious projects, gain experience with all categories of large buildings, facilities, and portfolios, regionally, nationally, and overseas. You will work with design and construction teams to support new construction and renovation, or improvement projects, considering high-performance and sustainability goals motivated by financial success through savings, incentives, better marketing, and certifications such as LEED, WELL, EGC, MFNC, and PHIUS. You will lead the development of energy efficiency and decarbonization (electrification) plans with an eye on grid flexibility.
Progressively, you will work with our analytics leads to support energy management and highly sustainable operations for portfolios worldwide through continuous and monitoring-based commissioning. Sharing internally and externally about the practical and economic viability of the latest building technologies, best-in-class design strategies, and operations, you will continue to challenge the status quo to contribute to lower (operational and embodied) carbon impact and healthier real estate for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the energy auditing and commissioning processes for (major) renovation projects and new construction.

  • Develop and refine advanced building energy models to optimize building performance and support sustainability goals with innovative solutions.

  • Collaborate closely with design and construction teams to ensure alignment with energy codes and green building standards.

  • Conduct thorough site inspections, system testing, and performance verification.

  • Interact with our team and clients to provide insightful reports and recommendations to optimize systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science and Technology, or a related field. PhD preferred but not expected.

  • Minimum of 5 years of combined experience in building systems commissioning and energy modeling. Certifications such as ASHRAE's HBDP, BEMP, BEAP, BCxP, and AEE's CEA, CEM, EBCP are a plus.

  • Proficiency with whole-building energy modeling software such as DesignBuilder, OpenStudio, IES-VE, EnergyPlus, eQuest.

  • Deep understanding of building energy conservation codes, ASHRAE standards, and LEED technical credits.

  • A natural curiosity and drive to understand complex physical systems and their interactions with human behaviors to identify superior energy conservation solutions through a combination of technology and design in a practical, impactful manner.

  • Professional Engineer in New York State, or the ability and willingness to secure a license in the next 12 months, is a plus.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and an exceptional benefits package.

  • Opportunities for rapid professional growth, recognition, and collaborative development in a diverse and inclusive environment of talented professionals working every day on exciting, meaningful projects.

  • The chance to be part of a team committed to making a positive and lasting impact on the environment and society.
