Job Description

This role focuses on safely formulating and mixing chemical batches by following detailed batch sheets, operating production equipment, and maintaining accurate records. You will start with labor-focused tasks and progress into full batch mixing and formulation responsibilities, working closely with supervisors and a helper to ensure safe, efficient, and consistent production.

Responsibilities

  • Attend daily safety meetings and follow all established safety procedures at all times.
  • Receive and review batch sheets to understand formulation requirements and production priorities.
  • Formulate chemicals according to batch specifications, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Weigh out raw materials precisely, including liquids and powders, using appropriate measuring equipment.
  • Handle raw materials from drums, totes, and bags, and safely pour and place materials into reactors.
  • Check gauges, controls, and monitoring devices to ensure equipment operates within specified parameters.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for mixing, batching, and equipment operation.
  • Keep detailed and accurate batch records, including materials used, process steps, and any deviations.
  • Work with batch sizes up to 4,000 gallons, ensuring proper mixing, timing, and process control.
  • Monitor running machinery such as pumps, mixers, and milling machines, and respond promptly to any issues.
  • Notify maintenance immediately if any problems or abnormalities occur with equipment or processes.
  • Perform housekeeping duties while machines are running or when batches are completed, including sweeping, cleaning, and maintaining a tidy work area.
  • Communicate daily batch records and production status with the next shift and supervisors to ensure smooth handoffs.
  • Work side by side with a helper, providing guidance on basic job duties, safety practices, and production procedures.
  • Start by performing labor tasks to become fully acclimated to the environment and processes, then transition into full formulating and batch mixing responsibilities.
  • Assist with packaging, staging, and preparing orders as needed to support overall production and shipping operations.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and team members, following training and feedback to continuously improve performance and safety.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of manufacturing experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in blending, formulating, chemical operating, or batch mixing.
  • Experience working in chemical or pharmaceutical environments, preferred over food manufacturing.
  • Hands-on experience with HMI, touch screen, or control screen systems for operating production equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow batch sheets and standard operating procedures accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail when weighing raw materials and recording batch information.
  • Capability to handle liquids and powders safely from drums, totes, and bags.
  • Comfort working with large batch sizes and operating pumps, mixers, and milling machines.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with helpers, other shifts, and supervisors.
  • Commitment to following safety protocols and participating in daily safety meetings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a modern chemical or pharmaceutical production facility.
  • Familiarity with large-scale batch reactors and associated process equipment.
  • Ability to multitask by monitoring equipment while performing housekeeping or support tasks.
  • Experience working across different shifts or in a high-activity production environment.
  • Willingness to assist with packaging, staging, and order preparation as needed.
  • Comfort working in both smaller, highly organized facilities and larger, high-volume production environments.
  • Openness to comprehensive on-the-job training provided by supervisors.

Why Work Here?

You will join a safety-focused organization that invests in modern, temperature-controlled facilities and emphasizes clean, well-organized operations. The company offers excellent employee benefits and provides thorough training to help you grow from labor-focused tasks into a skilled batch mixing and formulation role. You will experience a mix of environments, from smaller, close-knit teams to larger, high-volume operations, providing variety and opportunities to develop your skills. With strong emphasis on safety, organization, and operational excellence, this is a place where you can build a stable, long-term career in chemical manufacturing.

Work Environment

You will work in modern, temperature-controlled chemical manufacturing facilities that include both production floors and warehouse areas. One site features a smaller workforce with about 10–15 people on first shift and fewer on second shift, fewer lines and kettles, and a highly organized, recently remodeled environment known for its cleanliness and structured inventory. Another site is larger, housing a few hundred employees across shifts, with more production lines and higher overall activity, which can feel fast-paced and dynamic at times. Both locations focus heavily on safety and operate with security checkpoints, multiple break rooms, and organized production flows where products are manufactured, bottled, staged, and shipped. You will work on first, second, or third shift, with typical schedules such as 7:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m.–12:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, or 11:30 p.m.–8:00 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. The chemicals handled at both sites are described as not harmful, and you will work with equipment such as reactors, pumps, mixers, milling machines, and HMI or touch screen control systems. Dress will align with a typical chemical production environment, including appropriate personal protective equipment as required for safe handling of materials and operation of machinery.
