The Application Engineer - Job Description
This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining batch processing systems, focusing on scheduling, monitoring, and managing the execution of batch jobs. This role ensures efficient and reliable batch workload automation. The right candidate will be proactive and detail-oriented Batch Application Engineer who will maintain the Enterprise Batch Application, have a passion for automation and a strong troubleshooting mindset.
Required Skills and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge on application upgrades and installations.
  • Minimum 6 years managing the Batch Scheduling Tool – Patching, Configuration.
  • Minimum 2-3 years direct, hands-on experience with Redwood Run my Jobs – Day-to-Day Administration, Configuration, Troubleshooting.
  • Work with Project and Operation Teams to design, configure and implement batch job schedules.
  • Manage batch job dependencies, triggers, calendars and execution windows to meet the required SLAs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve CI/CD or migration-related incidents in a timely manner.
  • Provide on-call support to Operation Teams for critical batch failures and incidents.
  • Define and schedule batch jobs, including setting execution times, priorities, and dependencies.
  • Monitor job execution status, track progress, and identify any errors or delays.
  • Investigate and resolve issues related to job scheduling, execution, and system performance.
  • Analyze and optimize batch job schedules to ensure efficient resource utilization and timely completion.
  • Maintain the batch scheduling system, including software updates, security patches, and configurations
  • Collaborate with other teams to understand business requirements and ensure smooth integration of batch processes.

Preferred:

  • Proficiency in using batch scheduling tools and technologies (e.g., IBM Tivoli Work Scheduler, Control-M, ActiveBatch)
  • Understanding of Linux, Windows, and other relevant operating systems
  • Ability to write scripts and automate tasks for scheduling and monitoring
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams
