Job description

At AFC, our cross-trained Medical Assistants / BXMOs are the heartbeat of the clinic blending patient care, imaging, insurance verification, and administrative support to keep our centers running smoothly. Whether youre triaging a patient, taking an X-ray, or verifying insurance at registration, youll play a vital role in ensuring patients receive safe, accurate, and timely care.

What youll do
  • Clinical Care: Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing (COVID, flu, strep, glucose, A1C, UA, etc.), assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy.
  • X-Ray Imaging: Perform limited scope/basic X-ray exams (chest, extremities, spine) as licensed in Alabama or Florida. Prepare and position patients, operate imaging equipment safely, and ensure ALARA compliance. Maintain logs and QC checks.
  • Patient Registration & Insurance Verification: Register patients, verify eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
  • Patient Service: Educate patients on procedures and imaging, provide clear discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
  • Team & Compliance: Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs (crash cart, fridge temps, dosimetry), support infection-control, HIPAA, and safety standards.

What Were Looking For
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
  • Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within defined onboarding period.
  • Alabama: Active Limited Scope X-Ray license required.
  • Florida: Active Basic X-Ray Machine Operator (BXMO) license required.
  • At least 1+ year of MA experience with insurance verification and patient registration required.
  • Urgent care or ER experience highly valued.
  • Proficiency with EMR (Experity preferred) and payer portals (e.g., Waystar).
  • Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Additional requirements
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to work evenings/weekends and float to nearby centers as needed.

Work environment
Fast-paced urgent care with frequent role-switching; prolonged standing/walking; occasional lifting (2530 lbs); routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and ionizing radiation (strict PPE and safety standards required).
