I. POSITION OVERVIEW
Job Title: Dodge City High School Head Baseball Coach
Exemption Status: Supplemental Contract
Reports To: Athletic/Activities Director
Salary: Compensation shall be in accordance with the negotiated agreement and approved supplemental salary schedule.
Primary Purpose:
To provide professional leadership for the organization, administration, and evaluation of a competitive 9 12 baseball program that aligns with the academic, athletic, and cultural mission of Dodge City High School. The Head Baseball Coach is responsible for building a program that prioritizes student experience, character development, athlete retention, competitive growth, community engagement, and long-term program sustainability.
II. PROGRAM VISION & PHILOSOPHY

Program Philosophy
The Dodge City High School Baseball Program exists to develop young men of character while providing a positive, challenging, and competitive athletic experience.
The Head Baseball Coach is expected to:
- Build a student-centered program that prioritizes relationships, accountability, character, and growth.
- Create a culture where students want to participate and remain involved throughout their high school experience.
- Promote academic success, citizenship, leadership, and personal responsibility.
- Support multi-sport participation and collaborate with other athletic programs.

Competitive Standard
As the highest level of baseball offered by Dodge City High School, the program is expected to:

- Compete at a consistently high level while maintaining the values and expectations of Dodge City Athletics.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
- Valid Kansas teaching certificate or KSHSAA-approved coaching aide status.
- Valid Kansas driver's license.
- Current certification in CPR and AED administration.
- Comprehensive knowledge of KSHSAA rules and regulations governing interscholastic athletics.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous successful coaching experience at the high school level.
- Experience developing and managing a comprehensive athletic program.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with youth and community sports organizations.
IV. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Program Leadership & Staff Development
The Head Baseball Coach shall:
- Direct all aspects of the varsity baseball program.
- Supervise and coordinate all sub-varsity levels.
- Establish and communicate a clear vision for the baseball program.
- Recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
- Assign specific responsibilities to coaching staff members.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and maintain consistent program expectations.
- Model professionalism, composure, and integrity at all times.
- Promote positive relationships among coaches, players, parents, officials, and community members.
B. Operations & Compliance
The Head Baseball Coach shall:
- Maintain full compliance with all KSHSAA, USD 443, and Dodge City High School policies and procedures.
- Monitor athlete eligibility requirements.
- Ensure adherence to all safety standards and risk management procedures.
- Maintain accurate inventories of equipment and uniforms.
- Submit annual budget requests and equipment replacement plans.
- Follow district purchasing procedures and contractual obligations.
- Adhere to district branding guidelines, mascot protocols, and athletic department expectations.
- Ensure proper supervision of athletes at all practices, contests, and team activities.
C. Student-Athlete Development
The Head Baseball Coach shall:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive player development plan.
- Teach baseball fundamentals, advanced concepts, and competitive strategies.
- Monitor student-athlete academic performance and eligibility.
- Encourage academic achievement and positive school attendance.
- Promote sportsmanship, character, leadership, and personal responsibility.

E. Community Engagement & Communication
The Head Baseball Coach shall:
- Build and maintain positive relationships with youth, recreation, travel, and community baseball organizations.

- Promote collaboration rather than competition among baseball organizations serving Dodge City students.
- Conduct preseason parent meetings to review expectations, policies, and program goals.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents and athletes.
- Represent Dodge City High School Baseball positively within the community.
- Participate in youth camps, clinics, and community outreach activities when appropriate.
- Maintain transparency and professionalism in all communications.

Performance shall be evaluated annually by the Athletic/Activities Director in accordance with district expectations and established evaluation procedures.
