Bartender / Barista

The Bartender / Barista is responsible for delivering a polished, elevated beverage experience while ensuring every guest at The Cake Bake Shop receives a magical and one-of-a-kind experience that reflects brand standards. This role requires expert knowledge of beverages, ingredients, allergens, and presentation while balancing attentive bar-top service with efficient execution of service-well orders for the dining room.

Bartender / Barista Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Tip-Producing Tasks
  • Greet bar guests warmly and provide a refined, brand-aligned guest experience.

  • Take beverage and food orders accurately and enter them promptly into the POS system.

  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages according to standardized recipes, portioning, and presentation guidelines.

  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of beverage menus, ingredients, preparation methods, and allergens.

  • Engage with guests using polished, professional, and brand-appropriate communication.

  • Provide informed recommendations, beverage pairings, and perform suggestive selling.

  • Monitor bar guests proactively, anticipate needs, and respond promptly to requests.

  • Prepare and deliver bar food items, desserts, and beverages with correct timing and presentation.

  • Manage bar tabs, process payments, provide receipts, and thank guests for visiting.

  • Maintain cleanliness and professional appearance of the bar top, tools, glassware, and service area during active service.

  • Uphold all Steps of Service, including greeting, timing, presentation, celebrations, and retail engagement when applicable.

  • Communicate guest concerns, service issues, or product shortages to leadership immediately.


Sidework Responsibilities – Tip-Supporting Tasks

  • Prepare and stock fruit garnishes, syrups, juices, whipped creams, and beverage mixes according to recipes.

  • Restock liquor, wine, beer, sodas, glassware, ice, and bar tools needed for service.

  • Polish glassware and bar utensils used for guest service.

  • Clean and maintain bar tools and equipment such as shakers, strainers, soda machines, and espresso equipment.

  • Organize bar shelves, under-bar coolers, service wells, and immediate bar areas.

  • Replenish napkins, straws, stirrers, to-go containers, and bar service supplies.

  • Wipe down bar-top surfaces, chairs, and immediate guest-facing décor.

  • Maintain bar readiness and cleanliness throughout the shift.

  • Perform limited sweeping or spot mopping in the immediate bar area only.

Excluded Tasks - Non-Tipped WorkThe following tasks are not part of the tipped occupation and must be paid at full minimum wage if assigned:
  • Deep cleaning of floors, walls, drains, restrooms, or equipment.
  • Full dishwashing or back-of-house prep unrelated to beverage service.
  • Furniture moving, event setup, maintenance, or non-service labor.
  • Administrative, clerical, marketing, or inventory paperwork.
  • Extended prep or cleaning work not directly supporting active guest service.
Timekeeping and Pay
  • Bartenders / Baristas must accurately record all hours worked using the timekeeping system.

  • Time spent performing non-tipped or non-tip-supporting duties must be clocked separately and paid at full minimum wage.

  • Off-the-clock work is strictly prohibited.

  • Manager approval is required for extended sidework, prep tasks, or shift extensions.

  • The Company may take a lawful tip credit for hours worked in the tipped occupation where permitted by law.

  • Bartenders / Baristas may participate in an approved tip pool in accordance with Company policy.

  • Overtime is paid at the applicable regular rate with the correct tip credit applied as required by law.

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of bartending or beverage-focused hospitality experience preferred.

  • Valid alcohol service permit or certification as required by state or local law.

  • Strong communication, multitasking, and guest service skills.

  • Ability to prepare beverages accurately and consistently according to recipes.

  • Professional appearance and adherence to company grooming standards.

  • Accuracy when handling money, tabs, and POS transactions.

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 pounds, and climbing stairs as needed.
