Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Project Engineer - Water Treatment (f/m/d) join our Water Treatment Team in Spain (Madrid or Barcelona).

While the role will be based in either Madrid or Barcelona (Spain), it will support projects in other European countries (Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany), focusing on the design phase of wastewater treatment plants, drinking water treatment plants, and water transportation and distribution systems. The position will focus on technical design and calculations. It will also involve collaboration with process engineers to support detailed design development, including pump design and other mechanical components. An understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes is highly valuable. Additionally, the role will occasionally provide technical support to the Spain-based environmental consultancy team focused on industrial clients.

The onboarding process will take place in the supported country ((Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany)) for approximately 1-3 months. After this initial period, travel will be occasional.

This role offers a unique opportunity for a motivated professional to grow within the world's leading design & consultancy firm for natural and built assets. Role Accountabilities

Lead and contribute to the design, optimization, and expansion of wastewater treatment plants, prioritizing sustainability, reliability, and circularity.

Drive innovation by addressing emerging challenges such as the treatment of persistent substances and the recovery of resources and energy.

Collaborate effectively across disciplines-including civil engineering, process automation, and environmental technology-to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.

Guide projects and contribute to project coordination by helping prepare action plans and draft proposals.

Oversee the planning and execution of renovations and expansions for wastewater treatment plants serving both public and industrial clients.

Conduct feasibility studies and provide expert advice on technical solutions for national and international water treatment projects.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's or master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or a related discipline).

Proven experience in the design, optimization, and coordination of water and wastewater treatment projects.

In-depth knowledge of water and residual flow treatment processes.

Able to work independently with minimal supervision, while effectively following strategic guidance from the Netherlands-based team.

Fluent in English and Spanish; proficiency in Dutch, German, or Catalan is a plus.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and support junior team members within multidisciplinary project environments.

Result-oriented, customer-oriented and innovative attitude.

Strong team-working abilities, problem-solving and communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail and quality.
