Job description

Coordinate hospitalized patient activities at BUMC-T, BUMC-S:

  • Review daily curriculum and then, using Banner's hospital electronic health record (EHR) system and electronic medical record system, identify and recruit hospitalized patients each morning and assign them to Year 1 or Year 2 students for the afternoon bedside activities.
  • Notify faculty/Mentors of patient assignments.
  • Determine backup patients as needed.
  • Collaborate with Banner Hospital team members and leadership around patient recruitment.
  • Maintain access to Banner EHR and badge access to Banner inpatient units.

Manage the Doctor & Patient course curricular activities:

  • Organize other department offerings for activities in the D&P course.
  • Design activities master schedule to plan and monitor scheduled 1-3pm activities and other required sessions for each parallel academic block and assign students to ensure an even balance of activities as well as eventual 100% participation of students in all activities over the pre-clerkship curriculum.
  • Provide support for activities scheduled in ICaPS, ASTEC, and other COM-T and HSIB locations.
  • Provide support for tracking MedLearn schedules and student assignments.
  • Provide support for monitoring Mentor contact hours and other activities for annual reports.
  • Administrative and backup support for D&P Program Coordinator, Senior and Program Manager.
  • As needed, assist with activities involving students, Standardized Patients (SPs), and faculty/mentors.
  • Attend weekly Friday Faculty Development meetings when requested.

Other:

  • Provide support and administrative coordination for other Program Coordinators, Program Manager, and Directors as necessary.
  • Attend regularly scheduled D&P Admin meetings and other meetings, including with Curricular Affairs, COM-T, and ICaPS team members. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of College of Medicine policies and procedures.
