About the Opportunity

Our client, an established acute-care hospital and healthcare system, is seeking an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead its risk management program across the hospital and affiliated clinics.

This role is responsible for identifying and mitigating organizational risk, supporting litigation and claims management, advising leadership and providers on risk-related matters, and promoting a strong culture of compliance and patient safety. The Director will also serve as the facility’s Compliance and Ethics Officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the hospital’s overall risk management program and risk mitigation initiatives.
  • Investigate incidents and collaborate with leadership, providers, staff, and other stakeholders on corrective actions.
  • Support potential and active litigation, including investigations, interviews, depositions, legal holds, and coordination with legal counsel.
  • Advise on informed consent, documentation standards, disclosure practices, and professional liability exposure.
  • Oversee professional liability, general liability, and property claims management activities.
  • Provide risk management training and education to leaders, providers, and hospital staff.
  • Serve as the facility’s Compliance and Ethics Officer and support compliance initiatives.
  • Partner with leadership to identify trends, reduce exposure, and strengthen patient safety and risk practices.
Qualifications
  • Active New Mexico RN license or multistate RN license.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • At least 5 years of nursing experience, including 3 years in management/director-level leadership.
  • Previous healthcare risk management experience required.
  • Acute-care risk management experience strongly preferred and may substitute for the leadership requirement.
  • For-profit hospital experience and prior Director-level experience strongly preferred.
  • CPHRM certification preferred at hire and required within 3 years of employment.
