Backhoe Operator
Various Catholic Cemeteries throughout the state
General Description
Operates backhoe for various needs of the cemetery, including but not limited to: ensure graves are dug to specifications, loading of trucks with soil, grading areas of need with front-end loader, and snow removal. Ensure that all services are conducted with dignity and respect to the Roman Catholic Church.
Operating of a backhoe on a regular basis is a major plus. If you have not operated a backhoe on a regular basis, please apply for the Laborer position.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to the foremen of the respective cemetery.
  • Inspects backhoe regularly to ensure safety and proper maintenance.
  • Keep all grease fittings properly lubricated.
  • Notify foremen and/or mechanic of any operational concerns regarding the backhoe.
  • Responsible for the surroundings of the backhoe when operational.
  • Ensures that all lots/ graves, have been properly verified, documented, located prior to digging.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by foremen assisting with the care and maintenance of the cemetery.

Education, Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • MUST have at least 5 years of experience operating a backhoe
  • Must have people skills and able to work well with others.
  • Project a positive and respectful image to co-workers and visitors.
  • Must display compassion and empathy in dealing with the loss of a family member
  • Experience in cemeteries is a plus.
