Job Description

Contract Type: 6-month fixed-term engagement

Location: NYC (Hybrid - at least 3 days onsite/week)
Visa Sponsorship: Talan does not sponsor U.S. work permits or employment visas.

We are seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer to join a team building a strategic Application Monitoring Platform. The platform will provide real-time visibility into application health, server performance, process status, and infrastructure resources through a centralized monitoring solution used by development and production support teams.

This role is focused on designing and developing scalable backend services responsible for collecting, processing, and exposing monitoring data to a modern web-based UI.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java 21.
  • Build scalable services to monitor application health, server status, process execution, and infrastructure metrics.
  • Develop APIs consumed by the Front-End UI team.
  • Integrate with scheduling and monitoring tools such as AutoSys and existing enterprise platforms.
  • Collaborate with Front-End developers, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Production Support teams.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, deployment, and production support when required.
  • Optimize application performance and reliability.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor degree in Computer science, Engineering, Finance or Quantitative finance
    • 5+ years of Java development experience.
    • Strong expertise with Java 21.
    • Experience developing backend services and REST APIs.
    • Strong Linux knowledge.
    • Experience with multithreading and concurrent programming.
    • Solid understanding of distributed systems.
    • Experience with Git and Agile methodologies.
    • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

    Nice to Have

    • Experience with monitoring or observability platforms.
    • Familiarity with AutoSys or enterprise scheduling tools.
    • Experience with application health monitoring.
    • Exposure to KDB (not required).
    • Python scripting experience.
    • Financial Services experience is a plus.

    Soft Skills

    • Strong communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate with developers, infrastructure, and support teams.
    • Self-driven with excellent analytical skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
